For those of you who think this profession is useless in high level PvE, check you butts. If you still have one, thank your pets.
I am a Master Carbineer, Master Creature Handler, a couple weeks back I encountered a Nightsister type that was 100% resistant to Energy, Acid and Heat, which meant I couldn't touch the b*tch with a carbine. If it weren't for the pair of animals I had to throw at her, I'd have been toast. It took forever, but they beat her down nicely.
We're hurting from the Publish 5 kick in the balls we took, but we're not out. Like any form of combat, its expensive to stay competitive. Our pets are potentially free, since we can tame anything, but the money is in the petstims that keep them up and running. Pay the price, it will show dividends in the field.

I had a good time the other night as my BE pet succesfuly tanked a Rancor allong with a TKA in my guild. While the TKA was a better tank in general my spider took quite a lot of heat off him letting him back off and heal mind as needed. Unlike many I'm happy not bieng the best so long as I'm good enough to make a difference.

Yep, CH may not be "the best" right now, but we are 100% fully functioning, many other professions cant claim that. Im proud to be a creature handler, and I will never give it up! To all those new and upcoming creature handlers who read about people dropping it all in one night because we are supposebly "doomed", I got one word for you, dont give up, and don't became an ex creature handler who ends up grinding it all back because they didn't realise how special the CH profession is.

I don't use my pets as tanks enough, I actually feel sorry for them LOL. Yes they do fill a great role, I've used a pair of boar wolves to tank switching them as they get damaged. I'm not high enough for the really big tanks but the ones I have are often well worth having. I had one evening that my dewback actually saved me from a DB. I took out 1 con-white and 3 con-blue NPC then the whole group respawned rapidly and before I could get up from prone firing. Just before incapping from the laser fire I ordered my dewback mount to attack and itagroed the whole NPC team allowing me to awaken and run

By fully functioning you mean "We can use clumsy hacks and macros to make our pets do their specials properly." or were you referring to the "We can buy invalid pets that only become invalid after taming.", perhaps you meant "We can use our pets as long as they don't suddenly decide to run off into the forest and auto-store when they cross a certain semi-random boundary."?
We may be more functional than other professions, but we are certainly *not* 100% though I might agree to a 95%.
