Thread: idea Ranger pets, and other things

have at me..

I love the idea of Pets used to track certain types of other animals, like a blood hound. That would be very cool. Course rangers would be upset. Maybe it could be a ranger skill mod for use with pets? Then they might want to buy a pet.

Ranger has a special skill they can use a pet to help them track? Or, it could EXTEND the rangers ability to track, as well as any other person, but it would help rangers even MORE.

It could be a viable thing for us to sell as CHs.

Also, different pets could have different stats like

Sense of smell, eyesight, etc to help other professions including rangers, chefs (smell helps with exp bonus), medical experimentation (sry, i dont mean that, it is just wrong) and like someone said above dancer specific pets.

Bloodhounds or whatever for tracking purposeswould be very cool, although it may reduce the demand for tracker droids if it's used to track other players as well as creatures....which of course might cause rumblings in the Droid Engineering circles.

I don't actually know any rangers in game so couldn't get an opinion on how they would feel about other classes creature tracking skills being improved, but I would imagine they would have a moan.

Good idea. It wouldmake for a nicenon-CH pet for a Ranger if it extended his tracking range. (Though not sure if there might not be practical limitations from a programming stand point). BTW, as someone who has invested theskill points in Ranger to get tracking, Ifeel strongly thattracking should remain solely a Ranger ability.

Not something I would support. It would decrease the need for Ranger tracking, even if it only gave 100m to a non-Ranger, that's enough to hurt business. Giving the tracking ability to everyone is not a good thing. Rangers get only two new abilities, tracking and rescue, if you take away one of them, we're even more broken.

I did just make a joke in the Ranger forum about CHs being able to train the monkey-type creatures how to harvest resources from our kills though.

"It's too bad CHs can't train any of those monkey creatures to harvest. Like the shaupaut or purbole. That would be cool. Of course, they wouldn't harvest as much as a droid, but it would still be cool to have a monkey harvesting your kills."

That is something that might be viable... and funny.

I really meant just for tracking animals, or even resources with that keen sense of smell. Also, I did not mean in place of a ranger, but rather to suppliment a ranger's skills.

I suppose it would not help non rangers, but there could be pets to sniff out resources.

Actually I would not be against giving the rangers a+10 or even 20to max creature lvl skill mod. It would encourage CH's to go ranger and would allow us to have CL 90 pets.

My reasoning is that other classes can mix professions and like BH/Pistoleer and get benifits from both so why caint we?

I really like that idea, too! And it just makes sense that having Ranger skills would enhance CH skills. Conversely, a Ranger whohad CH skills might get pluses to harvesting or traps or mask scent, that sort of thing.

Ive always thought the 2 should mix beter than they do. Obviously a guy who devotes his time to skinning and processing animals wolnt be as good at handeling creatures as a guy who devotes his life to that but he should still be better than average at it. and vice versa

That sounds like a fine idea.

This was touched apon in the training aspect of the coral threads and in time i'm sure will be brought up again in some of the profession specific threads that Pluto and Vert have started

i'm a firm believer in this myself and am sure rangers would love a pet that may enhance they're tracking abilities
