Thread: Not Learning Abilities?

Sorry if this has been answered, but I have spent a good 2 hours or so fighting with a lv2 Paralope that has Eye Gouge LV1. It has been tamed with that skill that it came with (the command was in the Tame Menu). I have fought with this creature from a tiny baby to full grown, where I only get more ability points as it has reached it's max size. But I have yet to get the yellow message to come up saying that I have learned the skill. I have the Paralope attack with Eye Gouge all the time, am I doing something wrong that is keeping me from learning the skill?

Thanks!

Same here. I think it is bugged. I learned knock down from another paralope that was of a lesser skills. I know now to delete that paralope the paralope with eye gourge and try again.

Have you checked your training window?

Try using the /train command, while not targeting anything. The window will pop up and list any abilities that you can train.

Also, how many Training Points / MaturityLevelsdoes your pet have?

Majority of the pets that I have tamed, that are in the CL1 - CL6 range, have in the range of 21 to 42 Training Points, or 3 - 6 Maturity Levels. This is only the typical rate at which a pet will learn. On rare occasions, a pet will pass on its Ability before or after the 3 - 6 maturity range.

Hope that helps.

Yes, I have opened that window. As I said. I learned "knock down" from a lesser experienced paralope. My paralope with same ability as the poster of this topic was skilled enough to learn another ablity. I would not be surprised if it is a bug. If anyone learns this ability from a paralope please let us know. If they learn it from another low lvl creature please let us know which on.

Its all about luck. So far I've been extremely lucky, learning all my L1 abilities so far after no more than 2 XP re-rolls. I have doubts as to whether it is actually experience based, or just use. I was trying to learn the ability from my Ravenous Torton, CL33 so it takes a lot to level it. Took a while, but I finally got it just a little after 1 re-roll, after getting 1 XP point from killing some random mob.

I believe the time it takes for you to learn the special from a pet (that has the innate special) is random. I had two Mountain Squills that I tamed from the same lair and they each had different special. I fought them together as a pair and I learned the special from one before his Training XP had even rolled over once. The other one has rolled over his Training XP a couple of time at least and I still have not learned his special. Of course we really should not speculate and should just go to the SWG documentation ... wait, there is no documentation

can we / I get some clarification on Maturity Lvl ?
how is it expressed or shown ? is it how often my pet(s) had a roll-over on xp ?

about the learning thing -

by now i learned 2 skills. one of a purbole hunter and one of a rancor. i could have teached the purbole right from the start to use its ability but not the rancor although he's 16 lvls lower being 50 ( simple math purbole is 66). so far so good. now the rancor got 1 ability slot available with 13 TP but i can't teach.
the gaping spider being lvl 69 got 2 slots available with 64 (+) TP and i can't teach and nowhere is listed what skills i actually could teach not even in training window.

tried /train and all other commands i could find or think of but stil nada.

it also took me a good deal of time to learn my first skill yesterday, to the point i was spending time n the forums here making sure i wasn't doing anythign wrong.

I started with a cl1 chuba with L1 staggering attack, and well, that was just a silly thing to do. I then went out taming and found a cl 14 peko with frenzied assauly L1 and a CL14 kaadu male with l1 eye gouge... stil took me a good deal of time to learn the first still from one of them. Way too long IMO. I have now learned both of those skills, but it took 3 (or 4) rounds (whatever gives them each 27 training points) before i got to that point.

thank god its something i'll never have to do again (once I get all the l1 commands), because my idea of fun is NOT running around naboo watching pets i'm just going to destory kill kaadu for 3 hours.

I had completely forgotten about the new /train command. It turned out that I did learn the skill, and after hunting with some friends I learned some other skills as well. So it looks like things are working ok for me now. Thanks for all the help!

looks like i've forgotten the abilities i've learned off my pets. i do remember seeing the yellowish message that i've learned skill xy from my pet but after relogging the next day i wasn't able to teach anything (see above post).
kinda annoying as i don't have any prove that i actually learned anything therefore no ticket/bug report.
