Thread: Pets attacks reducing Root times?

Not sure if this is an old thing or not.


Was hunting Bols solo with pet - I was using rifle and first hitting with pistol root then repeated head shots - if pet did not attack I'd get a standard 5 shots after the root took effect before the root would expire. This happened like clockwork - every time root then 5 shots then root breaks. (rifle speed 1.6 +/- 0.1)


When I sent my pet in to attack the root would drop on the 3rd shot - interestlingly without the root breaking message. I tested this by sending the pet in before the root shot so it was not taking time to tell it to attack but every time the pet attacked the root would break on the 3rd shot.


I repeated this about 20 times or so, both with and without the pet attacks and got the same result. Two shots doesn't sound a lot but it equals 1800+ damage so ended up sending pet to attack on the 4th shot to maximise damage.


You may want to test this with your pets as it can amount to a significant difference - esp. I suspect in pvp (if this hold true there)

Roots were changed a couple of patches ago to break when the target takes damage. Why it is holding for even 3 shots I don't know but it is not supposed to any longer.

The pistoleer root (stopping shot) DOES NOT break on damage.


The smugger root (concussion shot) DOES break on damage, mainly because it has additional effects (daze, which prevents any healing or other action) and it would be, well, bad for crybaby flashlight wielders if it did not break on damage.


If pet are indeed breaking as stopping shot in the post pub 19 world, then there is a problem, because stopping shot is a much shorter root than concussion, but does have one advantage it does not break upon damage.

i tested it and found the same. if i let my pets attack my stopping shot root breaks. the target still got the state icon and the displayed rings around it - but it runs towards me.

sometimes i get lag issues - my pets attacking it come running to me and the target hits me even if its 30m away. then its figure is drawn to me when the client/server is adapted (even as a corpse its drawn over the floor).
