awesome...does he have the AOE like the queen does? I got my queen today and I have to set myself between 2 trash mobs cause she can kill them much faster than the respawn rate...first pet I've had to do that with. she has rolled over 3 times in less than an hour too

Why are you going after trash mobs? It's been about a month since I played, so I'm kinda lost on what you guys are doing.

I believe the training points will build forever but the ability slots will max out at 12 ... until ... you train all 12 abilitys and the excess training points go away and you get text that says "fully trained".

The execution date is set ... the tortured screams of tens of thousands of beloved pets and their masters will resonate throughout the galaxies ... cover your ears and cry!

It seems that thehow you learn your pet's ability is based on how many things the pet kills - the level of the mob doesn't matter. It's purely a matter of quantity not quality. The higher the level of your pet, the more things it has to kill. (We're not talking about earning xp, only learning a pet's special ability).

So, just for example, you have a level 5 pet and are trying to learn L1 Gouge Eyes. You might learn that ability after the pet kills 100 gnorts. Or 100 rancors for that matter - again what it kills doesn't matter only how many. Now, if you have a level 70 pet and are trying to learn L3 Gouge Eyes, the pet might need to kill thousands of gnortsor rancorsor whatever. (Some people, I'm sure, have figured out what level pet needs to kill how many mobs, but I have no idea). Most people are opting to kill yard trash rather than level 80 mobs.

in that you can learn abilities by killing yard trash other than grinding in a group you are right, although the yard trash method takes longer unless.....

you group the pet to a lvl 1 toon with befriend and grind the yard trash that way.... the pet becomes the lvl of the group leader which is lvl 1and gains max XP per kill cuz the targets are its lvl or higher, 4k per kill for a lvl 60 or higher. this trick has been debated here on the forum and I can say only this to those who say its not uber to do....

I have 3 kids I care for during my time to play so the ability to do this on macro with a lvl 1 toon I pay for on a second account is the only reason I still play this game. CH is the only profession that interests me now and at least they gave a work around to the seemingly endless grind...If you are willing to embrace it.... if this is ever nerfed or stopped in anyway Im gone the first second I hear about it....cause this is just a game and not a life and we dont need to pretend that it is....or beforced to think that way....

Yes I have done it both ways, cl 80 groups and cl1 grouping. I like the above poster take care of three teenagers as a single Dad, one even plays a CH/BH. So I have to balance the gameplay carefully. I do it outside Mos Eisley and almost always stay right there and fly my helper tag, answering 100's of questions per session. I have met soo many people that really did not have a clue about the game and have found so much new found fun by helping them out. I get a lot of business this way too for characters wanting low level mounts. and just any ole creature to run around with. Some of the problems of this game is that us Old Timers have forgotten that we play to have fun, and how much fun we have is up to us. Take a new player on taming run with you to Endor or Yavin and see how much fun it is!

1024 training points is 64 rollovers, on a CL70 pet that corresponds to 26.252.800 exp or 26.252.800 yard trash mobs.
Wow ... how long did you sleep?

Sounds like he leveled the pet with a CL1 - char grouped.

I'm still working with weaker creatures right now (CL10-CL16), but I have found that they level very quickly if I just group with them and take on game that are green/blue/yellow to me... A bit faster, lots funner and far more valuable to me than trash mobs.

I disagree with the per-kill thing, if I take out a baby tuskcat female (cl16) of mine (ungrouped) and kill a cl16 bolle bol with it, he gets tons of experience... in comparison to killing a cl4 tempest rills...

He'll rollover in 15-20 bols, versus 50-60 (or more) of the rills... so two bol lairs, or 5-6 respawns of a trash mob.

QFE : RocketDSM on the subject of the creation of a Non-Jedi Server
As for the argument of "The Jedi are bored, give them content and they'll go away." I actually do agree with you. However, there are two major problems to this argument. First, it would take a lot more coding time than just disabling the Old Man on one server. Second, all that time that would be devoted to a SINGLE PROFESSION is not being devoted to fixing bugs, adding general content, or making new expansions for the rest of the game population. So this is a classic problem of the needs of a few over the needs of the many. I can name seven professions that serve little to no purpose right now. You want more work done on one that's already absorbed an estimated 75% of the coding time for the past year. In my opinion, it's time to get the Jedi off the nipple and give the general population their turn.

well my theory is that pet skills are tied to a percent chance of unlocking per kill. As the pet gains experience the percent chance gets higher. So with a CL1 to CL20 pet the most fun way for me is to just use my pets in a grinding group, since I can have three out and let them go. They rollover XP pretty fast and I usually learn a skill on the third or fourth rollover. But for a CL 20 or higher you are looking at lots of XP to get for three or four rollovers, so the yard trash method may be the best bet time wise, especially if you do it AFK. Grouping your pet with a CL 1 seems to be the best overall method for both pet xp and number of kills.
