Thread: MCH/MRanger Template Does This Suck?

Hi, just a quick question: I am contemplating trying Master Creature Handler/Master Ranger/Medic0400 out. Has anyone got any useful feedback on the viability of this as a template?

I realize I will have no weapon skills effectively and will have to rely on the basic attack plus non-cert weapons (at higher level an ALR I suppose is the best option). I am hoping that with a template like this I can rely on pets to do enough dmg to take the aggro while I heal then from time to time. I anticipate having to teach my pets some defensive skills to minimize the damage they take as much as possible. I also expect to group up quite a bit of course. I basicallly can't decide between CH and Ranger so I thought I would try them both and stick with whatever I enjoyed the most. If its really not a viable option at all, then perhaps I need to reconsider one of the halfdozen other templates I keep switching between developing

I have also contemplated (in no particular order):
Master BH/Master Ranger
Master Doc/Master Ranger
BH0444/Master Ranger/Medic0400
Master Doc/Master CH

Any help appreciated.

Of the four, I'm a little fond of MCH/MDoc. The ability to buff your pets shouldn't be underestimated. I'm actually considering a switch to that once I'm done grinding combat XP for FS, but Pistol Stopping Shot is really hard to give up.

Thanks for the feedback. MCH/MDoc/MScout seems viable and group friendly, and I do really like being a Doctor.

I too am grinding FS at the moment, but I am working on boxes in the Heightened Senses trees - I plan on possibly returning to crafter and just really want the alt more than anything - so I want to take up a profession that I can stick with if I like it, rather than grind something I am going to hate otherwise, since I have no intention of being a Jedi. Thus the Ranger/CH/Doc element in all those specs. Master Ranger/Master CH would let me turn in huge amounts of exps for FS Heightened Senses exps, and is the best template from that perspective (plus it will let me explore the remote areas I haven't seen yet more easily). Master Doc/MCH is a second option that is not quite as effective from the FS pov but lets me stay a doc (currently 4002 in that) and will let me get fairish exps.

What is it thats worse about MCH/MRanger/MScout then if I can ask?

My bias towards doctor is heavily biased by my limited experience with Agression (L3). My meagre medic skills ( -21- ) have been barely adequate for the task when engaged with a significant enemy, and I'm unable to break the aggro on my Young Reptiliant Flyer.

Ranger sounds intriguing, but if I'm going to be non-proficient with weapons ( using a ALR ), then I want extra healing, and to have a tank capable of holding aggro. Ranger just doesn't seem to appeal to my sense of survivability ( although right now tracking sounds very attractive ).

I am definitely concerned that the healing of Medic0400 will not be up to the task, and I am definitely spoiled by Doctor healing. The thing is if you do break the aggro, you get it, meaning you need to be able to heal yourself just as effectively. Armor doesn't seem nearly effective enough in this game to rely on without healing unless you already have a high Melee Defense rating. Stimpacks start to get expensive rather quickly judging by how I could burn through them when I was a MBH/MRifleman.

You are making me think Doctor might be worth keeping, which then reduces me to either:
Master Doctor/Master CH
Master Doctor/Master Ranger

Tracking is nice but not really necessary in the current game. Pre-Cu I was MP, MCH, some Ranger , for harvest and tracking. While it presents everything in a somewhat nice list, with direction and distance, the radar does much the same thing. Thetracking areaprovided by the radar is pretty consistant with thearea provided by tracking skill. This is a complaint I have heard from Rangers.

So while I miss it when anyone mentions it, dropping Ranger has affected my play style very little.I just make sure to watch my radar and carry veghash with me.

I am MCH/MR and working on medic. While I haven't had any realy big fights yet, I haven't had any problems yet and having fun with it. I just started using a transdoshian hunting rifle last night and was really pumping out the damage. Get you one of those if you can and use your pets and you shouldn't have any troubles.

I think someone should have had the decency to tell me the luncheon was free. To make someone run out with eopie pie in his hand, pretending he's throwing up, is not what I call hospitality.

Okay thanks for the feedback. Have you tried soloing at all? or only hunting in groups?

I've done a little bit of solo while taming pets but i've only had this template since pub 21 so most of what i've been fighting have been 10-15 levels below me. Most of my fighting has been in groups on dant., but I did pretty good against a lair of reptillian flyers last night with my level 55 gackle bat.

I'm master CH/master Ranger. It doesn't work to good. You can either add medical skills to help keep your pet alive and have no knockdown recovery nor any special weapons attacks, or you can get a little marksman and have the recovery/attacks, but not have the healing needed to stay alive. You'd be better off MCH/MCM with a little marksman. Just my 2 cents.

Does anyone actually play the title spec though? I am sure I recall seeing some MCH/MRangers posting here but can't recall who. It would be nice to get their feedback on how effective/weak the spec might be?
