Creature Handler Archive
Thread: My opinion on why SOE making CH so undesirable:
i created my first Master Creature Handler back in July, and i found out quickly that the DEVs do not want ANY one player to be able to do more than two players can accomplish together. they are FORCING this game to be multi-player. i understand that it is a mMorpg, but those who want to be able to pay their money and play the GD game solo should NOT be punished for it.
i was CLEARLY stated by the DEVs in the patch notes before the first set of CH nerfs that they did not want a player with pets to be able to solo ANYTHING that two players could not kill together. i asked the question 'what two players?' at the time i brought up the fact that i had seen a Master TKA and a Master Bounty Hunter (this was back in July or Agust remeber) hold the entire city of Anchorhead capitive for two and a half hours... so are we talking about one player not being the equal to two Master level Elite Combat classes? then sure, i agree to that. but they do not seem to want a Creature Handler and his or her pet(s) to be able to accomplish much more than what the player ALONE can accomplish with their weapon of choise - thusly FORCING ALL players to group up with other players to get anything accomplished in the game.
So i put forth the question once again: What two players are we talking about?
[Master Combat Medic / Master Rifleman] + [Master TKA / Master Doctor]?
or
[Master Rifleman / Master TKA] + [Master Fencer / Master Doctor]?
or
[Master Swordsman / Master TKA] + [Master Rifleman / Master Doctor]?
if you are going to set limits then they should be realistic. ask anyone who has fought even ONE of the above player templates(never mind the combination of any of TWO of the above templates) and they will tell you that Master Creature Handler is SOOOOOOOOOO far from being as effective as two players that it is laughable.
so no, i am going to have to disagree about the code being the problem and say that it boils down to the fact that SOE does not want ANYONE soloing ANYTHING in this game. shoot, they even had that list of creatures people killed the most, and one of the listings was entitled "things players solo and should not be able to" which in my mind at least goes BEYOND we have a few things in the game that are ment to be killed by groups (krayts and the like) to 'players should not be soloing in the game. just like you HAD to master professions to open your FSS, you HAVE to group. we don't want to give you an option...'
but i'm not bitter ![]()

I can solo a dwarf nuna... barely. NERF NOVICE MARKSMAN!
Seriously though. CH is so far from what it should be, it can't even be compared to other professions. It's like a huge sadistic joke on us by the devs.

One of my reasons is being surrounded by about 10 mereks of varying degree as I get the 2nd to last merek for my collection.
That said, I appreciate fixes to our existing state (like fixing specials) and do expect some basic class maintenance.

Personally, I believe the main reason for the push to make creature handlers lose interest is due to the fact that the code pertaining to creatures is borked beyond recognition and they cant fix the issues without a code revamp. And you KNOW that aint gonna happen. Shrug, seems to be the only reasonable explanation. Hell i see more nerf screams for tera kazi, and that has never evenbeen addressed.
I think you're correct, with a bit more complication. Pets and droids are semi-independent objects with their own interactions possible. Sort of a cross between a tool and an NPC. They contain some of the most complex coding of any item. That makes them a PITA to work on.
I'm not making an excuse for them, if they're in the game they should function correctly; but I can see how it would take more effort to get stuff done.
And don't give TH so much credit for his opinions really having that much effect, he's way too low down the food chain for that.
