Thread: Pet Training Trades: have you tried it yet?

while doing so reading on CH, I gatherd that one way to train pets is to trade them to other CH and have them train in the skills they know. has any one tried this? have you had any luck? how does it effect your pet, other than learning a new skill? any hints or pointers for those who have not tried it yet?

And another good question would be:
If you have a pet with 4 training slots, can one CH train 2 of them and another CH train the other 2?

I have trained an ability to a pet that someone else had trained for training points and slots, so that worked.

It would be an interesting test for sure..

Do those 'special' abilities work just like normal CH commands and once the pet knows it any CH can use the command? Or does the CH have to "know" the ability in order to use the command, even if another CH trained it.

The pet was a CL10 pet. The owner had been a CH and had recently trained the pet herself to get the training points and ability slots, but then surrendered all CH skills. I trained the Bleeding Attack (L1) to the pet, and then trained the command for the bleed attack. When transfered back to her, she could use the bleeding attack command that I trained.
And btw, only way for a non-ch to see which special commands are trained to the pet (i.e. bleed for the bleed attack) is to use the radial menu on the pet in the datapad and choose List Commands.

Well if that works consistently that opens up a whole new potential market for CHs to sell their "wares".. not just the pets themselves but the, sometimes hard to find, specials..

Ready for another question....

I tame Pet A. I use Pet A in combat thus the pet is keyed to me and now only I can "learn" specials from Pet A. I train it up, then trade to another CH who trains it in an ability I do not "know", then trades pet back to me.

Can I then flip the pet xp and learn this new ability?

No. This was answered previously by a Dev. You can only learn innate abilities. Make sense? ...No.

It doesn't work, you can only learn the innate ability of a pet, not abilities that others may teach it. Confirmed by Drashk, Koa, and one of the devs.

The notes say that as long as the pet has 0 exp, then traded, the new owner can learn the pet's ability. This doesn't allow much in the way of trading stuff we have, but it does allow us to trade pets that we tame where we already have the ability but maybe someone else can learn it from the pet. Just make sure that you don't use the pet at all (0 exp) and trade it.

I do not group with them and spam the command to use the special , while in cL 80 hunting groups on dant.

I now have 5 abilities learned (3 L3 ones and 2 L2 ones) from the last 4 days of trying. Its not that hard really. I just go out solo to someplace that has lots of creatures near the level of the pet I'm learning from. In my case mostly endor for creatures in the 52-65 range. I dont group with the pet, I dont even use the specials they have. I just send them in to attack. Usually in 1.5 to 3 exp rollovers I learn the ability.

This is my understanding as well...that as long as the critter has not been used in combat, it can be given to another CH who can then learn the inate skill by using it in combat. This allows you to get some use out of tames with redunandt (to you) inate skills. I've already made arrangements with a CH friend on Ahazi to swap redunant skill babies, and have already given a guidie a baby that had an inate skill I already know so that she can learn that skill as well.
