I noticed a similar thing when I called my varactyl the other night - only thing I can suggest before it's fixed is to group with the pet and bring it up to your combat level.

its a bug that happens occasionally. i had the same prob when calling pets (more with be pets then with natural ones - but this could be just random). a little time later when i was in a city i checked again and the pets came out with the correct CL again. perhaps crossing server boundaries resets the problem.

I strongly suspect that this is a bug involving server boundaries.
The other day when my varactyl was still at level 45, I rode her from a player city 1500mE of the Keren starport to that location. The server boundary along the route seems to be on a grassy plain area between two ridges. As I was riding along, the level on the varactylchanged from a visible 65 to a visible 1. I stopped, examined the varactyl, and the examine info showed the varactly to have a level of -1. I rode on in to the starport, stored the varactyl, then called her again, and now her displayed level was 45, and the /examine again showed 65 as the level. The datapad consistently displayed 45 (65).
I flew from Keren to Theed, and when I arrived in Theed, I again called the varactyl. The visible indicator for her was 45. Later when I returned to the player city, again the visible indicator was 65...once I left the metropolitan zone of Keren.
So my thinking is that something is wonky in NPC metro zones, and the servers running them.

Yeah I've had that happen too. It's pretty embarrassing walking around with a level 1 kimogila.
