Well, I came back to check out the CU ( been out since Feb 04') and was sorely dissapointed to find my MCH/MBE template to be CL 54 so I'm looking for a new template. I want to keep MCH, but am warry.

Pre-CU I lived for BE crafting and mostly used pets to tank for my buddies in need of XP. Most of the "dungeon" based content waseither "no-pets" area or straight-borked back then. Heck, I just did Emperors and Jabba this week (pickin up the Total Experience this week to for JTL and RoTW stuff). I'm done with crafting as of now due to the resource shift thing now in place and dont wanna settle for a <CL80 char.

So my question is this.....Have any CH's found any areas of the game to be limited because you are a CH and rely on pets for damage or defensive ability? I'm favoring the TKM/Other Melee templates during the respec opportunitybecause I am my own tank, but I miss my pets and CL70 mount as they just sit in the datapad (the ones I didn't mess up with CL "adjustments", grrrrrr).

I just dont wanna miss any Quest or Theme Park content this time around because of my pets. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

Yah, I noticed the pets dont last like they used to, especially with anything CL70+ and I got a pretty good idea of the offense/defence capabilities so far since Ive been trying different combos with the respec, but thereason I posted was that Im more interested in the areas of the game where pets seem more of a hinderance than a help..

For example...I want to do Genosian Caves, the Cor. Corvette, the Trando Avatar, the new Wookie trails area, etc.

Has anyone found pets to be a hassle or just plain useless in these areas?

So I guess to stay CL80 and MCH would be key, but Im willing to give up my pets in order to enjoy this game content to the fullest.

It was difficult to get my pets to the second floor of the Hotel in Deeja Peak....for the Clone Armor quest. Pathing along the z-axis is awful.

I think they've geared the theme park stuff toward groups. The geo cave is going to be futile without help. The kwi spawn bug makes it near impossible to get past them without a diversion and/or some help. I haven't visited other theme parks, but I did do some quests on Kashyyyk and found those to be a mixed bag. The Ryratt (sp?) trail is easy with one person, but killing Jagged Fang can be a challenge if you are alone. This is just a hunch, but I would say that you're going to need groups to take on theme park content from now on.

A lot of the content is 25-50+ so you'll want to be able to kill those level ranges. Pets do not tank for you anymore. You can't rely on them solely to get you by. As far as I know TKM is gimped right now since you get tired so quick (action bar). I used to have TKM, but it doesn't hold a candle to what it used to be. I switched to Rifleman to support my pets from a distance. You can use pets to pull mobs one at a time now, so any profession you can get that deals some damage will probably benefit you. I wouldn't pick TKM if it was me, simply because it seems weak now. You want something that can get you out of a situation if need-be. Sometimes you just get overwhelmed and your pets will not be able to handle the situation alone. In extreme cases you will probably want to leave your pets and run while you can. You're not a one-man army like you used to be. Yes, it's possible to survive in the game solo, but I've found it way easier if you're CL 80 (and can do good damage with your combat profession)and have high end pets.

Well, I'm Master CH / Master Pistoleer with a bit of BH thrown in - 0440 - and i'm soloing quite easily. My combat level is 80 and I haven't died in the CU yet. I did do the Giant Mynock cave on Talus and strolled to the bottom no problems. I did a CH quest on Kashykk last night and now have a level 65 Veractyl that is as hard and as tough as any pet I now have (once he's grown up, like). I managed to take out Jagged Fang (the Veractyl big mama) easily enough with a level 57 Gurreck by my side. So If you keep CH definately do that. I have the Veractyl level 10 but he is pretty useless as he is incapped before I realise i am under attack. Ok he is fast, but now my new one is fast and hard, so it's a dismount and send him in to fight. I would never drop CH, the fun is just unrivalled in any other profession. The pets aren't working 100% at the mo but I haven't had too many problem and the regen rate is now as effective as the high HAM was before the update. No more stims needed just to keep them going. As they say in the adverts "I'm lovin' it"!

Rifleman Ch myself, Im having few problems as long as I am sensible about opponents level.

Ive dont the various ROTW clone relic quests solo with pets, and been fine, at the geo cave I set my 2 gureks to attack the kwis, unequipped weaon and burstran through to the room to get my bolotaur.

I soloed jagged fang, with little fuss.
Indeed, my halfway through pistoleer /master CH (level 65)on test center I also soloed jagged, but that took a while and I had one incap.

As for pets effectiveness Ill reserve judgement on 2 things.

Firstly, BE pets are currently being broken in conversion, not keeping relative armour values, that is being fixed in pub 17 ,hopefully my level 68 gurrek Laurel, who I have left untouched since CU , will return to her former glory.

BE pet crafting is also being fixed, and I am interested to see what post CU pets will come out like, particularly damnage dealing wise, it may change a lot of things we cuurently see with pets.

Secondly, specials not working, this may, or may not have a big effect on pets ability to give damage or hold aggro, until I see the new pets , working as intended with intact specials, I'm finding it hard to make a valid judgement.
