CH is fun, really fun ... but do not become CH if you expect to be "uber" ... just ain't gonna happen

CH is very rewarding if you can tolerate all the headaches and metal pain it causes. CH is like that itch that you keep scratching even though its bleeding and its hurt.

It seems to me, if someone needs to ask if CH is "worth it", then there probably won't be a good fit between player and profession. The little voice inside that originated that question may be trying to warn you away from taking that path.

If you enjoy spending hours on desolate parts of backwater planets looking for a certain pet then CH is for you.
If you are looking for that burst of pride when you see "Creature Tamed" after spending weeks or months looking for an Elite pet then CH is for you.
If you want instant gratification every time to see a hardcore animal then CH is not for you.
If you want to be a fine tuned kill everything machine CH is not for you.
If you want to have some very loyal and neat companions that do not talk back, rip-off or argue then CH is not just a profession, it is a way of life.
Just my .02 credits

If you are tired of playing alone cause no one wants to stand around while you survey or collect resources from a harvester then you should seriously consider CH. They are just NPCs but it still feels like a group when you are out there.

It used to be, not anymore. They have destroyed the proffesion, at least if you want to be combat viable. Im dropping CH, Been a master since 9/03. I've hung on waiting, and hoping. CU was the gut shot, patch 20 was the head shot.

CH is neither fun, exciting, USEFULL or any other thing right now besides screwed up. Dont waste your time or sp on CH.
This dumbing down to a console level of SWG is ruining every fun class there is. CH being one that I have loved since I started this game, is totally borked. Our Dev's are complete idiots

Make that "coup de grace" just because I've always wanted to use that phrase in a sentence ... it's sad that it is so accurate here tho'

I am a TKM/MCH ( just reached master today ), after trying a number of different combinations ( including TKM/MBH and MDoc/MBH ). Despite the general gloom-and-doom of the boards, I am having a great time with CH (PvE) so far.
If you're aiming for a class combination with lots of power, few hassles, no bugs, and little learning curve, then Creature Handler is not for you. If you played CH back in "the good old days" ( I'll let you decide when that was ), then CH is probably not for you. If you're looking to dabble in a profession, then CH is not for you. If you're into PvP, it's the common opinion that CH isn't for you.
OTOH, if you're not concerned about being to solo Ancient Krayts, couldn't care less about PvP, like the concept of having critters in tow, are intrigued by the idea of roaming the countryside on a lark looking for new critters, and want a profession that is different than the 759 combinations of Ranged/Ranged or Melee/Melee or Jedi/Melee, then CH may be worth a closer examination.
Part of the attitude approach to CH is mental attitude. I didn't expect much from CH in the way of power, and I've been very pleasantly surprised with the options and abilities of CH as I went along. I won't lie: my TKM/MDoc or TKM/Fencer/Doc were both more powerful than my TKM/CH, but power is not the most important part of my play experience: fun is, and CH has plenty for me to enjoy.
[EDIT ADD:]
Before I started up the CH path, I went and bought a combat droid ( Probot ), and played around with the training options on it, used it in some minor combats, etc. I wanted to see if creature control was something I enjoyed: and it was.
While a CL30 Probot doesn't provide the full CH "experience" ( both good and bad ), it does IMO provide a quick litmus test to see if controlling critters is something you like. And it can be done without surrendering a single skill point, as a bonus.
