I guess I could probably have posted this on almost any forum, but I happened to be here in the CH forum whenI came across several responses to several threads, stating things like :
"Well, given the number of posts you have made, you are obviously a noob, and so your opinion .... blah blah blah"
or
"This was only your 10th post so you clearly were not around when CH was nerfed ... blah, blah blah".
I simply want to say that the number of posts anyone makes has NOTHING to do with whether or not they are a noob !!
Personally, I have been playing since December 2003, so approximately 20 months.
First of all, I only started visiting these forums in about June 2004 (so 6 months after starting to play). Since then Ihave postedunder the names of4 differenttoons.
One of my toons has been Master CH for 18 months and has never posted ... does this mean that if I post under his name tomorrow, that I will be treated as a noob ?
Please guys ... the number of posts means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING !

That was one thread from one person who thought it was his duty to inform us that we are all unimaginative whiners who need to shut up and stop complaining, as obviously we were all morons, and clearly he is a super genious who is the only player who has any idea how to play CH. He could of had a post count of 3 or 30,000 and we STILL would of responded in the same manner.

Most is us realize that post count does not dictate intelligence. Like Orb said, we let their post do that...

The post-count was less a factor than the post, that's for certain...but the join date also contributed to the issue.

Most people don't. Sadly there are just a few, loud, insecure types who turn into clicquish little beasts in the faceless strangeness of internet communities. However, in some cases, as with the thread in question, condemnation and/or outright dismissal is earned.

I would be lying if I said people did not look at post count or time on the board when weighing opinions.
It isn't that these are definitive criteria, but they do give an estimation of how much one has interacted with the community. Frequent posters will also be a known quantity -- we kind of know what to expect from them, whether we usually agree or disagree. We feel comfortable with them because we know they understand the nuances of the community. Some have earned deserved respect for helping others or being involved for such a long time. Some might be looked down on for their tactics, but we know they have gone through everything we have, so there is still a sense of comeraderie. Often it is not intentional either, simply human nature.
That does not mean that a "new" poster cannot come up with good ideas, or contribute to a discussion, or even have a feel for the community. A well written post is a well written post.
