If you have full name commands you can use /tellpet attack /tellpet come etc...
If you have single letter up to 3 letter commands, /tellpet doesn't work that I have seen with 1 and 2 letter commands, not sure about 3.
not sure why your /say isn't working, have seen that used enough times. I like using the /tellpet for one, it hides your a CH from an opponent if its a large group attacking. And, most important, doesn't spam your group with attack kill attack kill attack kill and then come return... etc... etc...
Also, i know this is a no brainer, but make sure the macro is worded correctly to the command. One typo and the pet just stares at you

Crate a macro that uses the /tellpet command.
So if your command for attack is att then create a macro like this "/tellpet att;" (without the "").
Keep in mind that all /tellpet commands must more than two letters in length, so might need to retrain your pet if your just using single letter commands.

this is the macro I use to command my pet to Attack...
/pointat ;
/shout Dissassemble!!
Make your macro, put it on your toolbar, use it from your toolbar to train the command for your pet. Works for me.

My pets commands usually are very short ('a' for attack, 'f' for follow and so) and the same for each pet.
I have macros for those two commands this way:
/tellpet pet-name command
I have one line for each pet. This way it doesn't matter which pets are outside. For example, ifyou have only 4 pets, named 'zap' and 'zep', 'zip' and 'zop', the macro for attack would be:
/tellpet zap a;
/tellpet zep a;
/tellpet zip a;
/tellpet zop a;
It works for me.

I have all my macros keymapped to my keypad. Set up your macros as explained above, then in the options screen click on keymap button. There are then tabs showing commands for combat, movement etc. I think the one for your macros is under other or miscellaneous. Just scroll to the command you want, ie Attack, and click the rebind option. Press the key you want it bound/binded (?)to, in my case "0". Save your changes and try them out. I have had no problems at all controlling my pets this way. Plus it keeps my toolbars free so I can use all my pistol options, healing etc without worrying about taking up slots for the pets.
