Thread: Question from a CH dabbler :(
Ugh.. I was afraid of that. Maybe this will help : right now I am CH 1110. I don't think my taming is above 10 even but my max level of pets is at 18 which is the level of the kima (Piggy)When I was getting my first few levels of CH I chose to spread my points over the various trees so that I could learn more commands to heal (and name) him.. I didn't put many points into only the Taming tree so I'm not sure if this still applies.. still.. you are the experts not me.. I keep dreading I wont be able to pull Piggy out of my datapad the day I trade in all my Taming ![]()

I think you are getting confused because of the name of the taming tree. That tree simply contains all the bonuses to taming, but does not affect the level of creature you can control any more than any other tree.
If you look carefully at the modifiers for each line, you will see that they all add 2 CLs for the first box,2 for the second,3 for the third and 5 for the last one. You will also notice that the first boxes all take 5 skill points, reducing as you go up (don't mean to explain the obvious, but it helps with the flow of the point I am making
). Therefore, each CL from a tier 1 box costs you 2.5 skill points, reducing as you go up a single tree untila tier 4 box costs you 0.4 skill points per CL. It becomes clear now that the most effective way to spend skill points is to go individual trees, instead of across each teir and the main choice is to see what other abilities each tree grants and base your choice off that. Your idea of going up training is a fine one for someone that is limited in points because, as you rightly pointed out, that gives you the most creature storage.
That all said, there are some conditions to consider;
- You will likely need access to a moreexperienced CH to tame pets and teach them a better range of commands than you have available. Trick 1 at least is vital. If you have a friend that can help out here, you will be fine.
- You won't be able to use any aggressive pets unless you go up taming. This includes BE pets based on aggressive skins (like the narglatch), a full list of which is available in the BE forum. Non-aggressives you will not have a problem with to the best of my knowledge, even if your actual taming skill is very low, in calling them once tamed.
Hope that helps a bit.

My question: I tamed Piggy on day 1 he's in my datapad. Therefore I don't need to know how to *tame* him, just need to know how to *control* him. Correct? Or do I need to stay in the Taming tree? My thought was to go for the Training tree so that I have more datapad room to keep other pets, pets I either inherit from other CHs or pets I design myself. Is this ok to do or is there some fundamental thing about the CH class I am not understanding that won't allow this template to work?
Thanks for your time

Since you will be a BE, you can make +taming clothes. These will give you a bonus to your +vicious taming even without knowing the Taming line. You would be able to use vicious skins, possibly but not necessarily, all the way up to your max CL (24 if you go 0400).
