Supposedly we get +10 for tame, so does that mean I can tame a level 22 pet?

Also, some MCH suggested that for good XP, along with the standard train and release, that I should visit a BE and get a strong creature(preferably one of the cats) appropriate to my level(22?) to use in combat and this would make the leveling faster(it would definitely help me in my Novice Rifleman leveling). Is this a sound suggestion?

I am a Wookie Master CH, the +10 to tame we get applies to the attempt to tame and train both wild and vicious creatures, however it does not apply to the max level of creature you can control (in other words you have a better chance of taming a creature than a non-wook of the same skill level). This comes into play especially in the higher levels when attempting to tame the ultimate prize of the CH which is the Bull Rancor or other high level mobs, I can't say that I've ever read of a non-Wook training a bull rancor baby without bio-engineers taming bonus clothes - it's our bonus that puts us over the top there (if you go all natural)

As for your second question, a high HAM creature with good kinetic resist (and light armor when you get high enough) is definately the way to go, especially when trying to level rifleman (gotta keep the darn critters away to be effective with your rifle right) I would suggest going into cover with your pet behind you, get off as many free shots at whatever your hunting, then when they notice you send in your pet to fight and move to optimal distance again and continue your attacks.

Another thing to think about being a wookie, Bio-E'd pets can reach up to CL 70 - the max for any player to control, however any other race would always have to wear some bio-clothes to control such a pet, without the clothes they would only get a message saying they could not control the pet when they attempted to call it
