Thread: Idea for CH Vendor Workaround

Disclaimer: I am new to CH, having respecced into it. I am still learning a lot, so forgive me if I am making a stupid mistake here

From what I can see, we cannot tame a creature in the wild, then somehow deed it and place it on a vendor, unlike BE pets which can be so deeded. This understandably limits selling things like mounts, since we have to have the mount already tamed and trained to sell it, make specific arrangements with the customer and then go get the mount, etc.

So here's my plan:

What I was thinking of doing was ensuring I have sufficient merchant to have a vendor and advertise on the map (I do), then creating a simple Novice Artisan object such as a 6sided dice set, but name it as "Order for a level 10 Cu Pa Mount" when creating it. I can then place this item up on my vendor and price it appropriately (say 20k). A Customer who buys this order will hang onto it and redeem it for the mount when it is available. My Vendor will announce how this works so that customers understand it.When they buy the order, I receive an email telling me that "XXX has just bought an 'Order for a level 10 Cu Pa Mount' from my vendor. I keep that email and respond to it to let them know that it will take a few days, and I keep the email with the order until I have given them their mount. When the mount is tamed and trained, I can then contact them and trade the mount for the object (checking to make sure that the object was made *by me* first). I then delete the email.

This allows me to keep my datapad full with animals that have been ordered in advance, and ensures I am paid in advance for my time and trouble in obtaining and training the mount. I am not sure customers will like the order in advance methodology but if they don't I will usually have a mount or two available just on spec. It will let me advertise on the Planetary Map since I have enough Merchant to do so. I am hoping this lets me keep a steady business going selling trained mounts

I haven't done this yet, its still in the planning stages, but what do you people think of it as a workaround for the inability to put pets on the vendors? Can you see any weaknesses or suggest a better plan?

Any suggestions are welcome, and if it is possible to place a pet on a vendor, then please ignore me after you tell me how to do so

Alternatively it might work better if I price the Orders at some nominal amount like 1c, and then obtain the cost from the playe when they receive their pet. Not sure if people will be willing to pay in advance...

No one has any comments?

I have also thought of doing something along the same lines as what you have described. Haven't gotten around to it yet but I figured it's worth a try.

Sounds like a very good idea! I'll try it out and see what happens...

Okay some further refinements:

I am switching this around a bit. Now I will list an Order for those pets that I already have in my posession mostly (for something easy to get like Lesser Plains Bols I don't worry, I can get one in 20 mins probably). So I currently have 3 Narglatch Females I am going to sell to any CH who might want them but doesn't have them already. I have Orders for these listed on my vendor with a note in the details indicating that I am currently in possession of the animal and it is growing up now.

So far, this has not resulted in any sales - but I hardly expected them to be beating the doors down in any case. Since it takes so damned long for the pets to grow up (far too long when you compare the BEs "30s to pet" capabilities IMHO), I need to keep this organized or I am simply wasting days on raising the wrong pets.

I sincerely hope they adopt some form of the Corral suggestion. I would rather be managing and tweaking pets there, than devising a workaround for the poor implementation the devs have given us.

I think I am going to have to hauk a few pets at the starports though since I don't see anyone riding them. I gather people don't look at how much running a swoop costs them

This is a good idea, like a Sears catalog store, remember those?

This a great idea, I wish you luck with it.

I've sold 5 pets in the last week, 2 of them non-ch mounts, all by word of mouth. If I see someone pull out a pet, I immedialty strike up a convo, find out their cl, and offer what I have at that level.

To be honest though, I don't expect my CH to bemuchof apet salesman, that's why I masered BE
