Hello All,

I am a returning player after a year plus away from the game.

before i left i was working to become MCH, and had 2 boxes to fill before the Master box, My secondary was MBH

now, i have been back for almost a week, and had several group missions and XPing (on Rori, Dant, etc..).

I noticed that there are no CH players at all (i am on Bria), I've been in almost 8 different groups so far with players from lvl14 to 80 and not one single CH so far.

i am just wondering what is the reason behind that? is it that the CH can solo and do not need to group? or they r useless and thus not welcomed in a group?

i am really keen to get my MCH, but i am worried to spend my time on becoming MCH when i can not solo with it, (i like to solo and group) and also, when it is not welcomed in groups

I would appreciate some updates on the CH class and some advice on what to do?

last but not least, i read a lot on the forums here, and i realise that the profession needs a lot of attention and love (resists, etc..), but does that makes it unplayable?

Thanks for ur replies and help

PS: i solo 70% of the time and group 30% of the time

I think you will find differing opinions on this. I find you can kill stuff around your level regardless of what combosyou make. MCH+anything will still allow you to solo anything around you. Now, as a MCH/Fencer I could get my giant angler to tank, but for harder elite type mobs I need a BE pet. BE pets make a huge difference. I prefer the CL69-70 type with 8kish health and near 400ish max damage. Aggro has also been talked about as possibly contributing to helping tank so I try getting a pet with higher stats in that as well.

As far as groups go, not sure all groups want a pet with the 8 limit, but I've seen my pet be a tank at times or keep it at bay to be ready to handle an add. If we didn't have the 15 second wait time or pets could keep up with vehicles, it'd be more group friendly.

Well there are a few reasons you are not noticing many CHs in your groups.

1. CH pets count against group totals (8 max) so CHs may be expecting not to be allowed into groups, and thus be soloing. A number have reported being excluded or at least told "You can join but you cannot group your pet" (and who could blame the group for laying down such a rule?), and so they go off soloing a lot.

2. CH pets have been bugged since the CU went live, in terms of bad AI, broken/non-existent specials, inconsistent following of training orders (follow, attack, etc), bad Line-of-Sight problems, and a whole host of other things. After a month and then some, it's not surprising people got tired of it. I pesonally know 3 CHs (out of 5 or 6) in just my guild, including one who's been a CH since like game launch, who respec'ed out of it because it is so bugged.

3. CH is no longer an "uber" profession, if (after the fall 2003 nerf) it ever was. A CH is lucky to be able to perform equally to a double combat master, and has the added headache of dealing with pets -- which nobody but a pet-lover is going to want to put up with. So only people who love pets would have bothered ot remain CHs after the end of respec time.

I hunt in groups as a Rifleman/CH.

1) My pets SLOW me way down compaired to other professions. 15 seconds to pull pet. 15-30 seconds after combat to store pet. Most others in the group are already attacking the mobs or have left me behind for the next mission. With the inclusion of the V-35 Bus, I can get a ride to the next mission and store my pet from my data pad on the way... And I can be ready when the bus comes to a stop to activate my pet call... Has speeded up my participation in the group. Also I dont group my pet unless there is room in the group. This is a disadvantage since I can not tell how it is doing...

2) Pets are next to worthless after CU. Bugs with handling multiple pets. Speeds are way down.My best pet does 126 damage now.No pet Specials Attacks. Pets dont hold agro anymore (not good for tanking). The best thing seems to be to pull your highest level pet to hunt with, no need for more then one pet anymore! I am a master CH and my best pet is a lvl 42 pre-CU bio-angler... Dont need my lvl 65 bracesett,my lvl 50 rancors, or any of my specialized preCU Bio-pets... I may just drop down until I can still control my level 42 angler. No need for the rest of the worthless CH boxes now that my angler is fully trained... Oh, Very few people pay for pet training...

3) I dont think people like playing with these types of disadvantages... I have made myself useful to groups since my pet can pull agro on one Mob at a time (even out of a group of all hostile mobs). I have my pet return to me with the Mob in tow and the group attackes it, one at a time. Took me a couple weeks to develop new tactics for CH.

4) I have enjoyed playing CH since I started SWG... I plan to change professions if CH is not fixed soon...

I primarily solo. As a CH/BE, I'm out taming babies and collecting DNA. Not may peoplewant to follow me around while I do that

As to what you read on the forums, don't let it get you down, the prof is fun. The things people are most upset about is that they can't solo cl80+ as effectively as before and that total strangers are less likely to randomly invite a CH to their grp. Neither of those issues bother me in the least. But that's just me.
