Thread: Pets and Meele-proffesions?
I tried the TKM/ MCH profession after the CU cause I liked it so much pre-CU
I got tired of dying and I disagree with the TKM being a "tank" a cardboard tank I maybe...
It starts out fine until you do a bit more damage than the pets (after your 2nd hit...) and you tank the whole rest of the battle.
I ended up MBH/ MCH/ Pistols so I can survive the battles.
I find that with the pet's damage added to mine, TKA can almost do a semi-respectable amount of damage in PVE. I wouldn't know about PVP though since I don't do that.
IMO, TKA/CH is entirely workable (I'm rarely in any danger) but is a lot less interesting than it was pre-CU.

Well, here's the combo I went with and I enjoy it. I think ranged in general tend to be more powerful with the root and snare abilities, but I'm not looking for the absolute best combo, just one I think is pretty decent.
So I'm a MCH/MF and took 0100 TKA for improved CoB (reduce the damage) and 0010 Sword for improved Armor Break (increased damage of both my pet and me). I find the blind in fencehelps reduce damage decentlyand the knockdown, adv body hit, head hit specials do ok for damage. I can either have my pet and I both tanking in 2 v2or have myself tank with 3 nargs for higher DPSor have my pet tank while I add. I typically have my pet tank initially while I get states on, then decide if I want to step in or leave things be.
I like being up next to the pet, but when a mob does area attacks, I wish I was ranged.
I have good luck with TKM - MCH - Pike 0040. I try to just take things one at a time and play the tank role while the pets do the added damage. Some things take a while to kill but I do ok through CL 82-83 MOBs. I have not done any PvP though post CU.
P.S. I still pull out the bowcaster every now and again for fun.
I have to tell you, TKA/CH was a whole lot MORE fun before the CU, at least for me. There was a variety of tactics you could use, at your discretion (mitigated by what you were fighting of course), and a range of animals with a range of abilities. I was always able to pick animals that would assist me well in whatever mode I chose. In the mood for a mad frontal assault? Pull the rancor. In the mood for pulling? Use the cowardly gurreck. Want to fight NPCs that try to kite you? Use the BE'ed pet with the KD special. Want to tank yourself? Pull a pet with ranged powers. Want the pet to tank? Pull the brackaset and send it in first... etc.
Now, there's really only one way to fight things of any significance (i.e. blue-yellow): the single pull. And there's no point to using any pet below level 65, other than my elite narg trio. In fact, there's no reason to use anything but either my level 66 Kwi (ranged spit which he will not do upon command but he will do at random, and often enough I can semi-rely on it) or my narg trio (for the sheer damage/tanking ability, which isn't great compared to pre-CU but is at least survivable, which no other pets can boast). The other 15 or so pets in my datapad just sit there, being useless... and single-pulling is the only real tactic I ever use.
So it's survivable, but it's way less interesting than it used to be, IMO.
