Ok flame away if this is a newb question..but is the only way to get a Varactyl through the digital download reward or buying from one who did?..or can they be found and tamed like other critters?

No they can't be tamed, so the only way to get your hands on one is the other options that you mentioned....

well there is one you can get but you have to be a master ch because its lvl 65 when grown (basically get a mission from the rodian camp by the hunting grounds on kashyyyk and go kill a jagged fell then loot the nest for an egg)

You still have to have bought the DD to get the quest for the lvl 65 Varactyl though.

You have to meet both of the following requirements. 1. Be a MCH, and 2. Buy the DD.

The only other way to get the lvl 65 is to buy it.
