I just read the chat logs from the Dev chat tonight. Shows you how bored at work I am, . Looks like with the new expansion we MIGHT get some new pets to tame. Or at least, I hope. Though I have a feeling it will just be variations of existing creatures. Here's a snipette from what I read:

Brannoc: *Zasm* quick question, what types of new high level mobs will be introduced along with the new expansion coming out for SWG?

Ronda: Glad you asked...

Ronda: we're adding about 10 new creatures, including some killer high level bada$$ creatures

Ronda: We'll be revealing the new creatures very shortly

Ronda: but one I can reveal right now is the Kashyyyk Bantha

Ronda: while it surprised many to learn, a subspecies of bantha actually does exist on the planet Kashyyyk.

Ronda: Among the most obvious differences of the Kashyyyk bantha were lack of a shaggy coat, and the lack of the huge horns that were often associated with the species.

Ronda: In place of horns, the Kashyyyk bantha had evolved a pair of massive, bony plates that were used as battering rams. Another difference was the feet of the Kashyyyk banthas, which were tipped with longer, more articulated toes that allowed the creature to climb along the wroshyr tree branches.

Ronda: you heard it here first!

I wonder what we'll see?

Quick catch there, just saw this from the chat log myself. So hmm, sounds promising from a potential taming point of view.

It does sound promising, however the devs are known to take the easy route out of problems. If there are tameable creatures then they have to have the art distributed to everyone who owns the game because a CH could potentially pull it out in the middle of Theed and you wouldn't want some people seeing the "default box". The other issue is pet trading, what if someone tries to give one of those pets to someone without the expansion? Yeah, there can be code to prevent this, however that requires more work than just not allowing people to tame them at all which circumvents both problems completely. I truly hope this is not the case, and it would be awesome if you could get some confirmation from the devs, Vert, that at least some of them will be tameable. Lets hope they are doing things right!

Edit: I ought to proofread before I submit...

Yeah, I hear what you're saying. Though since they're hyping new quests on Kashyyyk, there are presumably quest rewards to go along with those quests. Assuming that is the case, I would think they'd have to make all the quest rewards no drop/no trade to keep them out of the hands of people who don't buy the expansion.

On the art side of things, the Ithorian and Sullustan art was necessarily downloaded to non-JTL clients in order to make those playable species able to interact with everyone. Does that set a precedent for allowing the export of tame creatures from an expansion-only planet?I'm not sure.

Yeah, I know they've done it before, and it is clearly doable. I just hope that they don't cut corners when it comes to us. I haven't been too jaded (I think), and I am hopeful that they are keeping us in mind.
