Thread: Pet Ranged Attack problem!

I told me pet to use the Ranged attack the other day, just to try it out, and now he won't use anything but it! It doesn't matter what attack command I say, he always attacks from a distance now, I miss the animations of him attacking, and he is soooo inaccurate with his ranged!

How can I stop him doing this?

hmm wierd usually they revert back if not during combat but after you store and recall them.

saying the ranged attack command again is supposed to shut it off.

I don't think its anything you are doing wrong I have noticed this week that (especially yesterday) that commands are not working right.

I was using 2 pets to tank for xp. I usually tell them to "stay" after they gain the agro and then I pick away at the mob. telling them to stay sually stops them from fighting but retains the agro and my xp is increased since I am doing most of the damage. Usually the mob will agro them within a minute and I would repeat the command if I needed to.

They would hear the command and stay, but after a minute even with the mob hitting them, they would both run ontop of me as if i used the follow command. needless to say the mob is now ontop of me also.

I think one of the last patches has messed up pet commands, I doubt its the agro increase since my pets arent agroing but comming to me as though the combat is done and I negated the stay command with the follow command.

never happened before. in the past if I told them to stay then they would not budge untill I told them to or were agro'd.

I just spoke to a CSR, they said that the pet will resume melee combat, once in range, but the pet doesn't try to get within range, as it is using the ranged attacks! Seemed very much like fobbing me off...

I've tried repeating the 'Ranged Attack' command, but all it does is "Ranged Attack is Toggled On" omn my screen, over and over again! I thought it would turn it off, but it just says that it is turning it on, each time! I'm soooo ready to leave this game over crap like this!

folks this is an old bug, that can be found in the top ten things to get fixed for CH. Dont use ranged attacks, dont turn it on i mean.

a pet that has a ranged attack will use it without using the "ranged" command until it gets in melee range. That part is correct, however the CSR probably was not aware of the bug with using the specific pet command "Ranged".

Once you turn the pet command "ranged" on, you CANNOT turn it off so NEVER use this until they fix it. That said, using a pets ranged attack is pretty useless right now as it does not allow you to control aggro, it does almost no damage against armor, and it cannot be reverted while the pet is still called.

Now, if you have stored the pet in your datapad, it shoul dbe re callable without the ranged problem.

A trick to get around the problem of the pet not being in melee range is as follows.

use the pets follow other command (/tellpet followother) until it is up close, then use the pets special command or /tellpet atttack, tellpet special1, or so forth. Then it will already be in range once aggroed or when it begins it's melee attack.

From the issue thread:

6. The special attacks "Poison," "Disease," and "Knockdown" do not work with the specialattack1 and specialattack2 training commands. The useranged training command switches pets to Ranged Attack mode, but cannot switch them back to melee

Never use the command myself

Ekaw have you noticed what I wrote above in the other post

My commands are acting wierd if you play today try using the stay command in a battle as I described above and see if your pet reverts to follow and no agro.
