I unfornately don't currently have the points to invest in CH, but I was wondering if having a pet with no CH skills at all is possible? if so do you guys have any suggestions? I would need it for combat. I have a probe droid to group with for combat.
Can a pet and droid be used together or only one or the other?
How do non-CH pets stack up in combat against the droids?
Thanks for any input guys. I do appreciate your advice!

Get a droid. It will be fully grown and powerfull when you first get it.

Natural pets CL 10 and below are not terriblly effective tanks, I'm afraid, against any degree of serious opposition.
BE pets usually have greater utility in combat, and are often, unfortunately, comperable to mid range CH pets.
Non-CH cannot have more than one pet of any kind off the datapad at a time. A novice CH can have a creature, a droid, and a faction pet out simultaneously.

If you want it for damage, stick with a droid. While it's possible to create a non-CH pet with 400+ damage, most BEs hate the complexity of doing so and just won't do it. If you want a pet for tanking, a BE pet (one that some people consider overpowered and won't make /train) would be better due to potentially higher kineic resist and higher health.
