And why doyou think you assign a certain gender to a certain type of pet?

interesting topic..it think the devs have decided for a few of the pets, ie: a gaping queen is either a female , or a flaming homosexual...and a bull rancor, shold be a bull/male..the widow by definition should be female too(widow not widower), and the real like male black widow is harmless, where the female packs a punch...for some reason i think of the cats as female, not sure if that is a freudian thing, but i won't go there

I usually decide this when I'm picking out names, unless they have male or female in their name like my Male Brackaset.

I choose arbitrarily. Gender ends up being based on the name I think up, or else if the creature looks more feminine (pretty)than masculine (ugly)to me.
Also, you'll note that the supposedly 'female' creatures still show up as male in the system, unfortunately. Anything called 'a female...xxxx' will still show as male if you do a /pet or other emote (i.e. "you pet HIM").
