Thread: Pet training XP for Non-CHs?

Ok

First, yes, I've read the sticky FAQ.
Second, no, I'm not a CH myself, so this might be the reason (I strongly assume it is)

Ok, I got this Level 5 Bol (BE-made, from a deed), and its really tiny (barely reaches my ankle), and I wanted it to grow a bit bigger (not sure if it can reach mount size, but would be nice ). Anyway, I had tamed it from the deed, and the next day Pub 21 hits and it won't grow on its own anymore.

So I went out, thinking "ok 5k per turnover is not that much", let's see how much I get per kill.

Myself I'm mainly an entertainer, with 4404 in carbines and CL 40, so I picked a CL 40 mission, grouped with my pet and attacked one of the Eopies with the pet attacking too (it hit and did damage (not much though of course)).
No Training XP. (I got 3k carbine and 300 combat xp, but nothing else)
Ungrouped with the pet, and repeated - no XP.
Tryed a level 5 wildspawn (or was it Level 4, not sure anymore), let the pet do all the work itself. Grouped and ungrouped. Still 0 xp.
Let it take down the lair on its own. Nothing.

As I said, I'm no CH, so I assume by now, that I simply can't get Pet xp. That I can't get Creature Handler XP is logical and ok, don't need it anyway

But Non-CHs can use up to level 10 pets, they should also be able to make them grow a bit in size, since that doesn't happen automatically anymore.

Its not really that I want any abilities or want to train my pet anything, I just want it a bit bigger.

I haven't gotten around to testing it out, but I just wanted to make sure that you are looking on the Pet Control Device for the listed Training XP, and not looking for the Training XP in the system message spam.

As for the size of your pet, it won't get much larger. There is an issue with BE non-CH pets that make them too small to be made into mounts.

Yes, I'm looking at the datapad, and it still says 0/5575 there (and just to add, there was no System spam about Training XP either)

Hm, about the size... damn... and I guess a wild bol is bigger than level 10?

Also need to confirm that it does not have an Trainable Ability Slots listed or Training Points.

It is possible that non-CHs will not be able to 'level up' their pets, since itcould be considreda Creature Handler feature.

It has them listed, but both set to 0.

Wait, i'll get ingame and make a screenshot for you.

Here's the screenshot

Also, it knew all those commands by default, at least yesterday, I'm not sure if it knew them already when I tamed it pre-pub21. So not sure if its a new feature, bug or simply something that happened while converting the pets.

My wife's ( MCarb/MCM ) L10 Bol mount that I tamed for her some time ago also gained no XP when fighting alonside us grouped, while my own pets did. It's my assumption based on these anecdotal stores that only CH pets gain XP in combat.

Someone can feel free to prove me wrong.

The non-CH's in my group also got no training xp for their pets. Seems to be CH only.

I've a feeling this is correct, CH's are the only ones who can level up pets- and I like it. Means that Creature Handlers will have something to do as trainers, other than radial and type.
