Yes. The final hit will say, for example, "Marr'Taan LeBeau hits a Rebel Commando (corpse) for 436 damage."

[Combat] A bull rancor (baby) attacks corpse of a nightspider with an area attack using Natural Weapon and hits for 244 points (244 points of kinetic damage).

It seems that at least the bull rancor will randomly use a special attack.

(Yes this creature is fully grown, however it has kept the (baby) tag because I never named it.)

My questions are,

did the Rancor apply a buff/debuff or state change to the target/targets?

did the area attack effect or aggro any other mobs in the area? ( if there where any)

what does this particular pet normally hit for on avg?

I'm woundering if it's saying area attack but really it's still geting transfered over as attack dmg, even so, if it's regualr attack dmg, I wounder if it's really an area effecting attack.

Area attacks are the only special currently doing anything, you'll see it from Krayts and things all the time, on another note im glad bull rancor are getting it, but nothing else works. The area attacks apply several states as i recall, but so far, I haven't been poisoned/diseased/stunned/blinded/dizzied/KDed/or anything on my frequent sojourns to endor by anything out there. (And there is a whole lot out there)

Okay, it says with Natural Weapon, but isn't the "area attack" that a BBR uses a Desease attack? Granted, I've never paid attention to the chat window, but why would it say a desease attack does kenetic damage? Honestly, IMO, I think the code is still in there for it to attempt an attack using special, and comes up that way, but it's just doing normal hits, but the code is popping up there that it's time for the "random" special attack to happen. Just my thought.

Heres a thought. When the combat spam says its an area attackit might just be an area attack without any state mods.

And as far as what the pet normally hits for. Well against mobs that con gray to it will hit for either 244 or 326 points of damage. Even though the attack range is listed as like 90-380. Im still compiling data so I hope to have more definate numbers soon.

Interesting, and thanks for the info Joker, sorry if I came off with a sour attitude. Just giving my opinion, unfortunatly, only high level pet I got are my twin level 51 Grual Maulers. Nothing with area attacks. Might go in and see what they might do, I know they used to do some specials. Definatly see if the "area" attack doing kenetic does hit more than one, cause that would at least make it worth while to some.

I know it's possible that the area attack doesn't have any state effects to it, but since the pet is still hitting with in it's min-max stats for attack, what I was asking is, was it reall a "special area attack" or was it just a plain old attack with the area attack lable.

Actually upon further examination of my chat logs I found that the area attack always did 244 and the regular attack always did 326. I belive this to be due to anaccuracy reduction rather than a straight damage reduction (because accuracy directly affects damage now). I am gonna do some more testing later.
