Hey all! BE/CH here with some news from the BE board that will likely make a lot of folks on the CH side of the road happy (and a lot of non-CH folks unhappy). According to a post describing a discussion between the BE correspondent and Keldarin, there's going to be another swat at sub-CL 10 pets. Seems that even though they are crafted according to the "corrected" system, the devs still think they are too powerful.
Most BEs agree with this in spirit (as do many of the CHs I speak with); having a 7k health creature for a non-CH is not what the devs intended. From the BE side of the fence, the frustration isn't with the impending nerf/correction/whatever, it's with the fact that A) we haven't been told when it's going to happen and B) no one is saying exactly what "too powerful" means.

Pluto,
We do need to keep in mind that CL is based on HAM and damage, not just HAM. In the wild, the Majestic Plumed Rasp has a HAM of around 450, but comes in at a CL 12 due to high damage numbers. Even a BE is required to make that tradeoff. So you end up with either a tank or an attack dog and the tank is the only one that make sense.
That said, lvl 10's should still have a lower cap than it is now.I think 2500-3000K. My first pet, before the change from lvl 15, was a 2100 HAM BE pet. It was a help, but died a lot. I think if you make the limit too low, you won't have a market anyway, other than novelty.

So we're supposed to be happy that the BE pets will stink as bad as what we can scrape up? I fail to see why this is good news. It is another slice from the casual players declining reasons to play this game.

I think the problem is that the devs created a system that works in an antispetic, logical sort of way (trading one attribute off for another), but in practice, you have people forsaking everything except health and kinetic resists. I'm not sure how they're going to "fix" this again without retooling what's under the hood.
What would make an acceptable CL 10 pet? What's CL 10 in the wild? What kind of stats could you cook up for that species if you stripped it of everything except health and KR?
And, frankly, does it even matter for CHs? Do we have a vested interest whether or not the common player has access to these kinds of creatures?

Templar,
I think the trade off is this, we may lose the total non-ch population anwyay when they come out with the droid invasion.
That said I had no problem with non-ch's having level 15 pets, especially for newbies who were just trying to survive. So I would say a HAM of 3 to 3.5k with some nice resists and maybe a ferocity of 1, to help it stand and fight. I mean all it needs to do is distract the MOB while a newbie or crafter with no combat skill runs away.

Personally I have an interest on both sides of the fence being both a MBE and a MCH.
As far as what do CH care about non-ch pets? How about a pet market?
Every non-ch wants to have atleast one pet weather they use it or not. The non-ch market is fairly large so that a nice chunk of change to be made.
I would be in favor of barring BE from making non-ch pets **if** they increased the CL of non-ch pets back to CL15.
As it stands atm wild CL10 pets are 100% useless. That being the case CH dont have a market there.. But just barring BE from making non-ch pets, keeping everything else the same, isnt fair to the community as a whole since it would FORCE newbies and low level character to group... People should want to group not feel they have too. Soloing in PvE, in a past poll, was what 70% or so of players enjoyed doing the most...
Or, and this would be my perference, keep the system in which BEs can make better pets from CL0-CL70 but re-vamp the CH tree (again) to include damage migration for PvP **and** defence and offense bonuses to PVE as you advanced in the CH tree.
If you cant give CH a pet market atleast give us some respect back!!! Give us a class that can stand up in PvP and one that can be as useful, point for point, as other combat classes.
Just my two cents

Temp,
Considering a plane jane wild caught Gronda is CL19 and 5.5K ham, I personally consider anything over, near or around that as a CL10 overpowered. I may not make any BE friends with this, but my recommendation is to disallow any non-CH use of BE pets. That provides a small market to CH. Of course, it would get tricky with mounts. In the end, the Devs wanted dabblers gone. And now they are but have just as powerful pets without the skill point expenditure.

from what i've seen there is no market for non-ch wild pets... this does nothing to hurt the average MCH's pocket books... personaly i would like to see a non-ch be able to have only wild pets... this will get rid of them haveing the lvl1 gurrecks that should be a cl 60 creature (they are still out there)...
i never had a pet till i was well into the game, i've done most everything in the game without help... even running delivery missions from city to city to get a better weapon... but around every city is the noob mobs... thats what they are there for... if you don't think its so goto tat and get a nuna mission, wear no armor, unbuffed, and use a cdef for a weapon... i took an order for 1k of tat ava meat one time (boy was that dumb)... killing nunas that harvest 5 units per body... i got so bored that i used my fists, stone knife, and wooden staff... i've never had any brawler skills but i have enough exp to be 1/1/1/1 brawler now... i was MCH with marksman 0/4/0/4 thats it for combat skills...
if we take away the BE pets completly for non-ch, it might actully make taming kaduu's, lowland brak's, ect...worthwhile... cause even though mounts are outdated they still work in a pinch... but this will be a moot point when the lvl 10 droids come out...
and its not like the BE's will take a hit for money, most of the ones i know are so busy making enhancments for food and clothes that pets are becomeing harder to find...

*note: i've never sold a pet to anyone other than a CH too lazy to go out and find their own... i used to give non-ch pets away... that was alot of cowerdly gurrecks, beetles, and mites...

When I came to the "Y" in the road... to choose MBE or MCH, I wanted to produce the best pets. I researched this and it seems to be the thought from the dev's was that the BE's were going to be the main producers of the best pets. This was back in the days when that was not the way it was going or even close... Nor did it get close for a while... but eventually did. It seems to be their goal that the BE is the producer and CH the user.
On this matter though, if you want to be a producer, you need to speak with dev. They may answer back that they don't care much.. or not. But if this is important to you, you need to know.
On the overpowered BE pets, yes thereare some out there. I do not care to make CL 10 pets, others are better. I really think that that the mechanism that allowed that, needs to be fixed.... having said that.. It is my opinion that ham is not nearly as important as ham vs kinetic. If you have a 7k ham pet that has no kinetic and hits for 30... Ok, the pet stims I sell, say 1050x35 would cost 3675 each. Say you send the pet in on a Elder gualama on Naboo, CL18, hits for about 160. This pet would loose. And after the fight, it would cost you about 1k creditsto heal it. But look on the other hand if you use the boar wolf. Its hits 10 times as hard and has 50 kinetic and is CL 25. The 50 kinetic would give it a defense of 18k ham, but yet you would only have to heal the 9k ham. Since it does twice as much damage as the Gualama that has 4500 ham... once the gualama is dead, the gualama would only deal 2250 to the boar wolf and with the 50 kinetic, would only receive 1125. That is only one heal. That person with that 7k ham CL 10 pet does not have a practically useful pet. If on the other hand, it had a bunch of kinetic, it would be useful even with the puny 30 damage. Only pets that have a strong defense are useful on the long hall. Ham does not increase the defense, it just makes them more expensive to heal.
