So i figure we start a thread for Pet based MMO alternatives since its been clear SWG is dumping CH profession for sure, i can think of a few and would like to get input from others:

Dark and Light

Ultima Online - Tamer (Graphics are abit dated)

Anarchy Online - Meta-Physicists, Engineer and Bureaucrats are all pet based classes (old school level grind fest)

DarkAge of Camelot - Necromancer, Cabalist, Theurgists, Animists, Enchanters, Druids, Hunters, Bonedancers (Games abit dated?)

City of Heroes and City of Villans - Controllers, Masterminds (new twists, decent graphics, but does feel like a CH profession)

Matrix Online - Proxy Masters (Game has major issues)

World of Warcraft - Hunters, Warlocks (doesnt feel to pet'sy?)

Eve-Online - Drone skill spec (pure space, not sure if it will apeal to CH'ers)

this is about all i can really think of that have REAL pets and not just something that tags along, anyone else? alternatives?

An amazing open landscape for you to explore. Much larger than all the SWG worlds COMBINED. From what I hear, I believe they have claimed you can tame most creatures, even some of the semi-intelligent humanoid ones. Taming comes from the exploring branch of experience, so you could pick whatever class you like and still be able to tame wild animals.

And for what it's worth, you can saddle a dragon. So for all you creature handlers that wanted a flying mount, you can now realize those dreams in this game. And when you fly in this game... the viewing distance to the horizon is astounding.

I cannot stress this game enough, all creature handlers should do some research into Dark and Light. The best part is, there is supposed to be an open beta/early releaseof sorts starting this month, which will be free of charge for at least 6 months. Unlike most beta's, this game is about finished... so you will be establishing the economy and civilization more than filing bug reports.

Tzitzimime - Creature Handler and Pikeman since the beginning.
I continue to play this game out of love for my professions.

When the "New Game Enhancements" go live, I will leave this game.
You can give it a pretty name, but it does not hide your shame...

"I mean, what is a pikeman and why is it something in the game? The only other profession we didn't absorb into one of these iconic templates is the creature handler and only 1% of our players play that character type."

I checked this website out last night, seemed interesting. Scenic pictures looked really nice. Also the weather changing along with seasons seemed cool. I signed up for beta. although I kinda regretted it lol. Too soon maybe, i'm not sure if I want to jump into anything. If the accept me though I'm sure I'll pop i to check it out and explore.

I'll shoot for a name Jope is you see a half elf or a Lute "I think it was called lute" with that name or close to that name it just may be me

SHADOWFIRE - MASTER CREATURE HANDLER / MASTER RIFLEMAN

TEMPEST MTK/MD - WANDERHOME MT/MM -???-???

"Creature Handlers are not 1% of the population, they are over the 50% mark, the 1% excuse is a flat out lie"

I know very well MCH and Hunter class from WOW. There is a good variety of creatures you can tame there aswell, wolfs, scorpions, owls, all sort of cats, raptors, among many others, and there are quite some abilities you can teach. When you learn the Loreability you can scan any grown up wild animal to see if they have specials or not. You can have a max of 3 pet slots, 1 will be out, and 2 will have to be on the stable man. If you keep only 2, you cankeep themuntill you are max lvl, 60, so you can upgrade your pets specials by taming wild ones with better special ranks. You learn those specials after using them for 3 to 30 mns in combat. Ranks for things like bite, or claw go up to Rank 8, and have pet lvl requirements. There is also dash, full speed attack, and a stealth for cats that gives he's first attack more damage. You tame grown up animals, and can order them to attack, stay, follow, order to use specials, and set behavior to passive, defensive, or agressive. It's medievel, but landscape is nice, untill you reach all your goals. There are always surprises, since the areas never look the same. It's not very hard to reach lvl 60 tho, and after beeing 60 for some time many people get bored. You can't respec your main class, but can have 10 tons per server and 2 crafting relationed skills, like skinning and leatherworking (armour). It's the most similar to this MCH pos CU system. Pet's gain xp and level up has you use them, increasing attack power, Ham, etc. Only attack speed remains the same from scratch. Hunters can use talent points to increase the pet stats, add them very good specials and power, or can invest on melee(includes traps)or ranged (bow/crossbow) skills. Only Hunters can tame, and they have to feed the pets from tie to time so they remain loyal. Warlocks have to do quests to get their minions. Progress is Quest based, and you will have to kill # <insert creature name> like you do on star wars. There aren't lairs for easy xp grinding, there is rest state if you don't play much, else you better quest or would take a lot of time to progress. All in all here on SWG1 you could kill what you wanted and get good xp, specialy on lairs, there it can be very annoying having to find a pristine claw from <insert creature name> you might have to kill things for 2 hours to get one, if the drop % is low. It's not perfect, but if you are a tamer and don't mind medievel, i'd say this is what resembles the most, to pos CU system. I'll try Dark & Light tho, already made 2 Hunters there, can't see it anymore , not untill Burning Crusade at least.
