Apparently its on test center right now... no idea when it will go live, most likely it will be in the next big monthly patch, or they might hotpatch it in on any given day, they've been fairly unpredictable with these types of changes.

It will be the line that is now called Field Bioscience that is getting the change. That whole line will be called Tracking (Hopefully the title 'Hunt Master' will be changed to 'Tracker' as well).

(From another post here is the Tracking tree as it is on Test Center)

-Tracking (20k, 30k, 50k, 70k)

-Box 1 -Area Track: Direction (innate, judges approx. direction of target using /areatrack)

-Box 2 -Area Track: People (innate, enhances skill to allow tracking of NPC's)

-Box 3 -Area Track: Distance (innate, ability to judge approx. distance to target using /areatrack)

-Box 4 -Area Track: Players (innate, allows tracking of PC's)

Hi folks.

I mastered CH last Friday *cheer* and am changing my leveling template from Mrifle/CH medic 4-0-4-0 to Mrifle/MCH/Mscout and the ranger tracking tree up to 3.

My primary income is from meat harvesting so I figure I will make out there, but more importantly I am truly hopeful that this will assist me in the hunt for a GPS and other rares. Has anybody else tried this?

*not to mention I consistently see blurbs on the auction channel paying up to 1 million credits for things like an ancient krayt waypoint*

I currently have a Wookiee working on that exact build. I plan for him to master Creature Handler and Rifleman, and I was going to take some Medic skills... but I almost never need to heal myself, pet stims can cover the pets (Medic Injury Treatment skill does NOTHING for pet stims, btw), and I have so many pets in my datapad now that I usually just rotate them out instead of healing. I figured the huge bonus to Mask Scent at Master Scout would help immensely when it comes to taming higher level creatures, and I've already worked up to the second box in Ranger tracking. He is currently Rifleman 3-1-3-2, Creature Handler 3-2-1-2, Master Scout, and Ranger 0-0-2-0. He has Medic and some skill boxes in there, but like I said, I never use any of those skills, so I'll be dropping them soon to free up skill points. It's been working pretty well me so far, and I'm looking forward to tracking down higher level babies.

I have Tracking up to level 3 and use tracking all the time. However, it is not as helpful as you might think. At that level, you can track NPCs or animals that have already spawned within a 500m radius. The problem comes in when something you're looking for has not yet spawned because the spawning system doesn't trigger until you (or any player) enters a certain area.

As an example, I just finished the Hero quest tonight, needing to track the moisture farmer and the wild bladeback boar. I found neither of these through my tracking skill, but rather was standing around when it spawned in front or close to me.

But it is still useful to a degree. I did snag my wild gurreck last week using my tracking skill.

Hope that helped.

I am a master ranger and I was able to find both the boar and the moisture farmer using Areatrack.

I can also see a lot of creatures 400+ meters out in a direction in which I did not come from.

I was Master Ranger and MCH for a while. I finally gave it up for a combat profession. The tracking is not bad but really was not that much better than watching your radar and buzzing around on a Swoop. It took about the same amount of time to just go to the spawn as it did to dismount, track, and remount.

Interesting,

I am looking forward to trying it. I basically realized that I just didn't use the medic skills for anything other than healing my own HAM from specials. With the right stat migration I could probablay manage that while unarmored, or I could just join the masses and hunt buffed/armored....which truly is god mode.

Thanks for the feedback folks!

Scenario A (no tracking ability):

- go to a waypoint...run/ride around...dazed and bewildered...wondering where the freakin spawn is!!!!

Scenario B (with tracking 3):

- go to a waypoint...areatrack..."CHANCE" to find a nearby spawn (within 500m or so) - if it already spawned.

Heck...a CHANCE is better than NONE!

I mean...come one...WHO ELSE can stop in the wilderness...look around (without moving) and tell you there's a Bull Rancor Baby 438m to the SE...???????

Exactly my hope. That chance is still better than holding on to a host of skills I don't need/use. (medic). The fact that I will harvest more effectively and get better mask scent are just tertiary benefits.

There's a knack to using tracking effectively - you have to remember how theserver "fills in" the spawns within 500m. of you:

The server continuously sends information about the spawns around you, starting with the closest and working outwards. It's actually pretty slow! You can see its progress from your radar - the resolution of the background ("blockiness") improves ("becomes less blocky") as the details are filled in.

With tracking, the trick is to wait a few seconds whilst standing still before doing the track . This gives the spawns chance to be sent to you from the server.Keep aneye on the radar and you'll soon find theoptimum point at which to track without standing around forever.

Once you get the hang of it, tracking works pretty well. And it's a real boon when you want to know if babies are about!

The places where it doesn't work so well though are near server boundaries - it can give quite confusing and, at times, annoying results. (I was once driven to distraction trying to find a baby in the "overlap zone" between 2 servers).

One thing to bear in mind as well. Trying to find things from a swoop is not a good plan, it is far too easy to go past something long before the server updates the spawn details on your client. As a result you will miss a LOT when whizzing along at high speed (this feature is actually quite realistic!). This is one of the good things about using a mount - your lower speed means the server haschance to send spawn details to you and you are less likely to miss things.

(Hmmm- I can't help wondering how many of those people who "can't find a GPS" are screaming about the landscape on swoops at high speed?)
