Hi,

I am quite new to SWG (about 4 weeks now), and for the last few days have been starting out on CH. Last night I got to 2212 - so still a long way to go.

But I hear people on here talking about buffing pets. Cansomeone please explain how this is achieved ?

Thx, Rince

First it's great to see new players choosing CH Welcome Rince !

Ok, buffing pets ... Well it works the same as buffing players. When you get buffed by a Doc, you can ask him to buff your pet(s) too ... This will enhance the stats of your pet(s) for the same amount yours have been enhanced/buffed.

Hope this answers your question

/edit Congrats for achieving 2/2/1/2 in four weeks !

MMORPGs are about immerson, not conquest. FPSs are about conquest, not immersion.
Powergamers want a FPS, but want an audience to admire them while they do it. That is why they flock to MMORPGs. l00k 4tz me, im d4 l33tz dud3z.

Yes, you can have a doctor buff your pet. The problem is they go away when the pet is stored or stores himself. You really only need the secondaries buffed. So, if you get a mission, store your pet, and hop on a speeder the buffs are gone. If you walk to your missions or ride a mount they are fine.

Some people speak negatively towards pet buff, and in fact I have had several doctors refuse to buff pets, but I feel it's beneficial. If you do not have an elite combat profession mastered, sicking a pet on a lair and layin back back taking 'em out one at a time, or side by side as a mele professionis a good feeling.

Pet secondary statisticsare set to 40 at default, hence the tortorous rate of regeneration. So, if you blast them to 2540 they turn into, in my opinion, indestructable monsters. For example, at your level, having a doctor buff your Greater Sludge Panther or Grand Wrix would be a great idea for Quenker missions on Dantooine. If you ride your landspeeder or mount, as opposed to a swoop/speederbike, the wrix and panther should be able to keep up with you.

Out of curiosity, why would a doctor refuse to buff a pet? /boggle

I guess I could see since you're only buffing secondaries that it will result in an odd number of buff packs for the doctor, but still, it seems a pretty minor concern.

I think the bigger concern would be for CH's since as posted, pet buffs are lost when the pet is stored.

No way, i buff em all, why not, and extra 2500 health, sounds good to me!

One said simply "I don't buff pets"

Others don't like adding to their already long lines

Excellent - thx for the welcome and replies

My other question (which I realise I didin't include in the original), is which is the best way to gain XP? Should I call the highest lvl of creatre I can, or best sticking with something small and going after the mobs that are the quickest to kill, but result in a lower (about 100) CH points.

I still can't work out which is best, as one squill might give me 308 points, but 3 small Womp Rats give me 109 each, but are killed in seconds.

Thx again,

Rince

There is supposed to be a ratio between pet CL and MOB CL. If pet is too low or too high you get less experience. I have never been able to work the ratio out. I have been trying for a year and it seems to vary from MOB to MOB and planet to planet. Most MOBs seem to have a "sweet spot" for pet CL. I do most of my leveling on Dant and there I got the most XP with a CL15 Canoid Hunter. It is best to experiment with different pets on the creatures you will use for leveling to see which is best. On Dant I got less XP with a CL 12 pet and CL 18 pet than I got with the CL 15. It was a few hundred points depending on what I was killing.

Yeah, what Hawat said. As for specific scenarios, with a CL 15-20 in the Geo Labs will get you 1114-1200 per kill, and about 100K xp an hour. I have a guide on here somewhere.

well the best way to get exp is to have fun hunting with them... as soon as the fun goes away it becomes a grind... do you have more fun killing squills or womp rats???

the best for exp is useing one pet... keep its CL as low as reasonable... different CH's use their pets differently...

if its going to be the damage dealer then it'll need to be able to go toe-to-toe with the wild mobs so a little bit higher CL will be needed...

if you kill the mobs and the pet takes the brunt of the damage, go according to how long it takes you to kill something... the exp might not be as good as useing a lower lvl pet but staying alive is always a big plus in my book...

or at your current lvl of CH you could get a nice BE pet with a low CL that has high kinetic resists... if you prefer wild pets GSP can still tank really well if you have some ok combat skills...

but my advice to you is to just play the game and enjoy it, the exp will come with just exploring the different planets... you won't notice how long it takes if you are having fun... on the other hand if you want to grind it out quick it becomes very boring very fast...

I can just see a "Wait for the Combat Revamp" and "Wait for the Smuggler Revamp" quote all rolled into one.
"Wait for the Smuggbat Revamp"
