Thread: Combat Revamp (Sandbox Suggestion)

In my second post to Tiggs yesterday I stated that what I (read that as me personally) need from the Dev team is to know that they are wanting the Combat Revamp as much as I do.

In offering this up for thought to Tiggs and my community, I feel I must offer an alternative to what we have now. As I stated yesterday I am a skeptic. A little proof and progress would go a long way.

As of today, my thoughts drift towards what could be considered progress. It is my belief that the SWG team should make the Sandbox forums. These forums would become open to the select few people who have been picked for the project. The documents would be made visible to them and all concept and development would start on paper with the Sandbox Team.

One could say that they exist on paper already. The fact that the Combat Revamp Summit was held 6 weeks ago and we are still waiting infers that these documents were not ready as presented. Maybe the 150ish extra people picked for the Sandbox could help solidify the concepts and wording. The least the 150+ Sandbox testers do is provide more insight as to what players want for their profession.

The announcement of this Sandbox board would give the two things I FEEL we need as CH. Progress and proof that the Devs do indeed want the Combat Revamp as much as I do.

Not against broad changes, just profession specific ones (read as CH) that go against what we've been told in the past.

For the combat sandbox I just wish I knew when it was going to start so can start preparing myself for it.

Milteck would you say you agree or disagree that starting a board now before the launch of hardware/software would show progress towards the implementation of the Sandbox itself?

I believe the Correspondents have their own forum and we all know the combat rebalance efforts were discussed at the Correspondent Summit. Correspondents are players just like the rest of us and I feel Vert and the other Correspondents represent the player base just fine until the Devs are able to distribute the information to a wider audience. I am not necessarily opposed to a wider distribution such as the Sandbox players (who will have to understand what they're testing!), but I suspect we won't see much movement until JTL is released.

I'm actually tickled that Tiggs is still making the rounds with her "Getting to know you and your profession" posts during a time when I'm sure things are pretty hectic around SOE with the JTL release fast approaching. I read it as a sign of good things to come.

Tstorm,

Great post. What I questioned was progress. I have seen "know your roles" and "19 questions posts" before. Posting no longer is a merit winner by itself. You know and I know that meaningful feedback and progress is what will gain people merit. I am being real positive of late. I have offered up the problem and I solution that I see as workable.

If they do not do it, no problem. If they do it, then everyone wins. Especially those choosen to be CH testers.

I have reservations whether any one correspondent can remember all the issues for their profession. I must admit as a non-Corr I tend to remember only those problems that deal with PvE and PvP. Not that taming is meaningless, it is just not my thing. The Frenzied Graul is my biggest issue with taming. This is not a Vert attack. It is a human nature. The Devs had their ideas when the Corrs went in. It was not perfect. It is the reason we wait now for miniscule changes. What will happen when the 150 people see what is proposed? Why not get them in there now so we can flesh this out more?

I fall back to the RuneSabre post reminding us while SOE felt the CH nerf was necessary that SOE would endeavor in the the future to include the CH community in changes. One person does not a community make. This again is not against Vert. Instead I feel the community would be better represented by those choosen to be our service workers, the Sandbox Testers.

a little trading of information is always a good thing

I myself would.nt mind seeing what our representitives might be planning as far as possible suggestions or slipping in a few bug fixes lol when the situation arises.

this is kinda tricky since no one has any idea other than info tossed out 10 months ago about the cb, however since the ch were already balanced then I would expect no further "nerfing" from a creature standpoint.

I understand most evryone here agrees with many issues it might be a nice idea to be able to share some concerns with sandbox members in all proffesions.

since our personalities and wishes are reflected in what we ask for or may be able to accomplish then i think communicating in a sandbox forum is a good start

I agree Pluto, if the testers had some advance knowledge of what they would be testingit could not be a bad thing. As you said, we have been waiting what 6+ weeks now? Maybe the sand box could help even out whatever is keeping the testing from starting. Something like this could not hurt and would help us know they are serious on getting this finally into the game.

Pluto

Before the sandbox begins I am going to try to get all members together once we get a timeframe when it begins to discuss our expectations. By the time it begins I hope we will have a open dialogue with all members of our ch team including vert.

My experience going about the sandbox is if they allow me to create the jedi master ch template I have on Radiant. Even if they would allow me to do that I would have to consider if that would be for the best interest for ch and if possible would like to try out all possible profession combinations that go with master ch.
