Question:
Does the Max Level of Pets I am allowed (I am currently at 24) have a bearing on what I can and can not tame? More to the point, can I only tame CL 24 and below creatures right now (as babies) or can I actually tame something right now that will end up being a CL30 for example?
Thanks in advance. And if there is some formula for determining this I would be very appreciative to learn that also. I am just trying to get a handle on what I can and can not tame (aside from just pulling up the radial menu when I see a baby).

Your max level of pets is the highest non agro you can tame. As far as agros, you will need to either have taming clothes to get the same level. If your max level of pets is CL28 and the agro pet is CL28 and you have no agro clothes you should get the "You can't tame that message". Due to the viscious (aggressive) taming skill is lower than your wild taming skill.
Example: I as a non wookiee needed taming clothes to attempt a tame on a Bull Rancor which is CL65 and agro, even though my non agro taming modifier is >90.
