I was having no problems this morning but after logging in tonight whenever I enter a body of water on a mount I'm now considered as swimming as well. Previously the mount was the only swimmer and I was able to fire default shots while in the water. Not anymore...you can not attack while swimming... did something change? I didn't see any updates that went through but something is definitely different from this morning.

I can't say I have tried this.

You could get a savage humbaba though. You will be hard-pressed to find a puddle it has to swim through.
