Thread: Ranged attacks do different damage types?!

As part of our 19 questions the Bio-Engineer community asked:

"What type of damage do creature ranged attacks do and is it the same type of damage for all BE pets and wild creatures?"

The answer we receive by TH is as follows:

Bioengineered pets do kinetic damage. Wild animals do a variety of ranged damage types based on their creature type.

Click the following Hyperlink for the original thread: TH's Q/A

Anyhow, it is my opinion as a BE and a former MCH that this answer is BS. It is my assumption that all pets do one type of ranged damage.

My question to the CH community is:

What is your opinion? Have you noticed a difference in ranged damage types in your wilds VS BE clones?

I think there is a huge potential for both the BE community and the CH community to know the answer to this question.

**IF** what TH said is true, that would open a whole new market up for your wild pets. It could also open the door for new tactics to be used now and in the combat re-balance.

**IF** what TH said is not true, then it would benefit both communities to know exactly what damage ranged does do... So CHers can know what tactics to use with it and so BE can know weather it may be worthwhile to make an effort to get ranged to stick more often.

Anyhow, any input would be appreciated

um I thing TH is over generaliseing.

most ranged attacks are acid
there are some heat
these are the only other types of damage open to the CH, and ranged attack is bugged.

Most of the "spitting" pets are higher level or aggro
Merek's
Bobcats
Greater desert womp rats

to name a few

Hmm.... I knew about acid, but I didn't know about heat. which ones do heat?

Oh by the way I think the TMB does acid, that is why it is such a good pet

I remember way back a lizzard that did heat ranged damage, we joked it was a fire breatheing dragon (in game).

It was months ago so I don't really remember

sorry

After reading that thread earlier today, I decided to see what I can find out later when I log in.

I have a Wasteland Cu Pa, and my friend has a BE Cu Pa, if his still has ranged abilities then I will see what he hits me for. I guess I will need to find some kinetic only armor to try this out, hmm, which armor is mostly kinetic only.

Ubese is strong in kinetic and weak in the others.

I have an Ubese jacket, cool.

Chitin is the other one I was thinking of. I will check that on the boards before I log in tonight.

I posted this in a testing thread in BE also. Here are my results. And don't worry, I am not leaving CH for the dark magic arts of BE. BE isappearing to be the most in depth crafting profession in this game. Anyway to the results.

I had my Toxic Merek Battlelord attack my friend. He had on a Helmet with Acid protection and kinetic protection. He had on body armor with kinetic protection but no Acid protection. And leggings that had Acid and Kinetic protection.

With my TMB on range attack only, when he hit the body, indicated by floaty numbers in red, it hit for exactly what the combat queue stated. When hit in the Head for mind damage with blue floaty numbers it was dramatically lower if I remember correctly combat queue was 250ish with floaty 55 and I believe he said it had either 55% or 75% acid resists. When hit in the legs indicated by green floaties we had both full hits and reduced hits, this being because he is a Doshan and can't wear boots.

Afterwards he reviewed his combat log and the helmet and the leggings did list as reducing the amount of damage delivered on him. So a TMB's range attack is Acid (I didn't check his other resists in his armor, but it surely isn't kinetic).

Today was my first full day as a Novice BE. I made a nice little Eopie with ranged attack. CL13 with H2634 A2239 M3586 but only 70-75 damage. We repeated the experiment. With the Eopie on Ranged attack only. When he hit the body he was hitting for the full 9 points of damage, the body armor being resistant to Kinetic but no resists to Acid. When he hit the mind the combat queue stated 9 points, but the floaty stated 1, and that helmet had both Acid and Kinetic resists in it. We then waited for the Eopie to hit his legs, and the same reduction was seen there.

In this experiment the BE made Eopie with Ranged attack was not shooting Kinetic damage. I want to venture to say it was Acid, but I believe we need more testing.

If anyone else tested this, please let us know your results.

We tried my friends BE made Cu Pa against me with my Ubese jacket. His Cu Pa kept missing me and then it decided to just go melee. So we stopped that and did the above posted experiment. I believe my friends armor was Padded, just for the record.

Interesting. Another good experiment might be to attack a creature that has 100% resistance to Acid, but not to Kinetic. Like a sulfur pool mynock. I might try that myself the next time I log in.
