Thread: Been a MCH/MRifle for over a year now... Pets Can't Tank. So Long MCH.

Main reason for becoming an MCH was to have Tanking Pets. period.
I am not a collector. I have a rancor. I have my three dancing birds. But I have 6 FAST cats with lt armor and awesome resists too.

My alt, Evyl, is a Master BE. So I have (had) some very nice 2nd and 3rd generation tankers with nice Bark Mite Burrower Queen DNA stats and such. Fast cats. Etc.
After converting my pets as stated in these forums.. (yes, I did test a 2nd gen CL34 cat and changed its level.. it went to CL198.)
After converting my pets, the best CL I have is a CL62 cat. ok.. I figure there's some balance here. I had read that some pets had chewed up jedis pretty handily here and there. So I was game.
I went out ON NABOO.. (I start low level and work up when learning new stuff) and test cats vs small stuff. OK.. gnorts die. Kaduus.. die. Maulers.. hmm.. not so hot. Cat got chewed, but mauler died. (This was my CL62 big cat too). She used to swallow maulers whole.
OK.. tanking verses my non-pvp, non-master rifleman RL G/F.. Cat got chewed up. Toss up, but Slipstream is by far a non-pvper.
OK.. time to test with rifles... I send in pet. Pet starts chewing. I shoot. I get aggro.
Any shot.. and weapon.. I shoot.. I get aggro. pets cannot hold a tank role.
I became a CH since pets can tank and since my BE can make 2nd and 3rd gen pets with great resisits and light armor.
Pets can't tank if I remain a rifleman.
Two choices.. Drop down to a low-level damage profession.. Novice Marksman?
Or.. drop MCH.
Took me a few hours to settle on option #2.
ooh.. new profession possibilities are now in play. !!
Damun can drop CH and pick up CARBINEER or MBH or Smuggler Or.. or.. or.. cool. Damage-dealing rifles WITH specials that DO WORK. Interesting.
And Rikk (my other alt) has always been needing a reliable slicer. (he is weaponsmith/MArtisan/Chef).
So now.. Damun is a Rifleman/Smuggler.
So long MCH. You will NOT be missed. My pets will.. but the new non-tanking profession will not.

CH doesn't work so well alongside Jedi either for levelling. CH used to give additional XP, now it takes XP from the same "pool" for the kill.

My opinion (and say what you will about it)...you give up too easily. I've been an MCH/M Rifle for two years. There will be a way around these difficulties eventually.
I have had no problems with my pets tanking properly as long as I continue, as I always have as a rifleman, to maintain appropriate distances and giving the pets ample time to make sure the creature being attacked is agroing solely on them.
Keep this in mind... Sometimes under the old system the creatures being tanked would attack you anyway, depending on their ferocity level. We don't even know what the changed pets have or do not have yet. We (the collective CH community) are still figuring all of this out.
If you really want to throw in the towel, be my guest, but don't complain when you're grinding CH again because your friends figured out how to properly use the new system.

Appreciate the advice. I've been trying to figure out how to work in a smuggler into one of my 3 character's temapltes in order to slice Rikk's weapons. So after trying out Rifle/Carbines andRifle/MBH, I've settled on Rifles/Smuggler.
I managed to solo 4 CL80 missions too. So I'm doing good as it is. Thanks for the /respec option they thoughtfully added, I dont have to do the smuggler grind.
