Thread: Imagine...

Just imagine that one Jedi in the middle of a large group in the middle of Theed...

20 or so players surrounding him, the first flick of the saber...

That battle would would be something special to watch...

According to the devs, that lone Jedi would have no trouble dispatching this group of experienced players and moving on. I for one just think it would be an awesome sight to behold. Figure 10 or so sets of blasters firing away, deflcets happening. Couple of Teras Kasi in there keeping him busy. Droid hovering around firing away. Bodies laying on the ground. But in the end, one guy (or gal) putting away his light saber and walking away...

That is why I love this game. Not because I want to be that Jedi, not becuase I want to fight that Jedi, because that Jedi could appear at any time...

Harvesters grinding away...

Factories hoppers brimming...

Vendors always sold out...

Everyone has one...

The banks are full of them...

Every color imaginable...

Battles over in seconds...

Lightsabers.

In one year, the first few Jedi will probably be cranking out lightsabers like crazy strictly to improve the quality of the one they wish to use. And instead of practicing or destroying, they will probably be selling their discarded attempts...

A million 1337 bastards all running around with their day-glo nerf rods hacking at every luna that crosses their path spouting their 1337 speak...

Developers, please, make it extremely difficult for lightsabers to succeed and work. Also make sure becoming FS requires more than some set pattern, finishing four missions, or simply being in the right place at the right time...

Since non-FS characters can't even equip the sabers, much less weild them, I don't think this will be as bad as you fear.

Don't worry about people running around with lightsabers. Only jedis will be able to use them.

According to the FACTS that have been stated by the DEVS. They can equip and use them, just not use them effectively. I imagine it would be similiar to a Novice Marksman equipping a Scout Blaster. Just would be very ineffective. If you are a Novice Marksman fresh off the shuttle and you equip your bad a$$ 200 damage scout blaster and start taking down nunas, you hit for like 5-15 damage instead of the weapons specifications...and a warning makes you aware of this once you do equip it.

To those who are going to INSIST you can not USE or EQUIP a light saber, show me a screenshot or link to a post proving it. A real lightsaber. Not a broken lightsaber. Not something from beta. Not something dropped by an NPC.

sys, there's no need to be hostile. You can actually prove it yourself. Go get a working saber off of a Dark Jedi NPC or (I believe) from one of the nightsisters on Dathomir. When you try to equip it, you get a message that says "You must be Force Sensitive to use this item." Simple as that. Perhaps someone has a screenshot of the message; I do not.

I am not being hostile. Most of the people on this board are simply full of $hit. They read one line somewhere, their cousins boyfriend confirms it, then they spend a month spouting their garbage all over the place. You obviously did not read my post completly:

A real lightsaber, crafted by a Jedi.

NOT a broken lightsaber.
NOT something from beta.
NOT an NPC dropped lightsaber.

There is a difference. If you do not believe that you are kidding yourself. Saying an NPC lightsaber is like a player crafted lightsaber is simply put, dumb. An NPC dropped scout blaster is garbage compared to a player crafted one. And if you really think the devs are going to put real lightsabers out there from day one, again, you are dumb.

Again I do not mean to be hostile, and I am not trying to insult anyone, but come on already. All this wasted text (entire board) about a subject NO ONE understands. I am just as guilty as the next guy, so I include myself in these broad sweeping generalisations I am making.

I started by making a simple post asking you to imagine the horror if the Jedi thing went horribly wrong...

But, err, while a dropped scout blaster is junk compared to a player crafted one, they both use the same certification. While it's possible that dropped and player crafted light sabers are handled differently, it's also possible that the devs changed their mind somewhere along the lines and that quote is no longer valid.

Ahh, but the scout blaster dropped by an NPC is still a scout blaster, yes? The only difference is that the NPC drops are the lowest possible quality variant of a given item. It's quite easy to verify. A dropped CDEF pistol will always be 17-35 damage. Likewise, an unexperimented and crafted CDEF pistol made with any old resource will be 17-35 damage. There is no point, from a design perspective, to make a completely separate loot version for NPCs when the system is in place for PCs already. You simply make the NPC versions worse than what players can craft (or after the content patch, generally worse). NPC dropped sabers are most likely unexperimented versions of what PC Jedi will craft.

Besides, why make the PC versions weildable and not the dropped ones? That doesn't make sense on any level.

Look I was playing my friend char the other day and he switch from pistal to carbine. So I gave him a DH17 snub nosed. As carbine 0 in marksman you don't have the cert for DH17 thus it gave me that little mesg so I tryed it anyway. A freaking vynock almost killed me. I was doing 6-12 points per hit. I bought a crappy mid range CDEF and was doing 40-60 per hit. I got Carbine one and the cert changed to the DH17 and was doing 250 point hits.

So what this tells us is having the CERT for a weapon is a VERY big deal. From what I've seen ONLY a JEDI of a certian skill lvl has the CERT or the SCHEM. Thus even if he makes 200 Light sabers and passes them out to all his friends they can't realy use them. I mean what freaking moron is going to use a light saber in combat when it probibly does 15 points per blow? Owe and if you read the devs ALSO siad that a Jedi does better dmg etc with a lightsaber HE made. So its safe to assume that even ppl who reach Jedi will seek out parts to make there own even if they have getten one made by someone else.

Yes lots of ppl will probbily get the disguarded prototypes that sme jedi makes. On the other hand I SERIOUSLY doubt some Jedi is going to churn out 500 lightsabes from a factory. So relax. Yeah ppl will have them. It will be a fad thig to run around town with yor lightsaber. Then 5 days later reality will set in and they will be back to carrying there uber rifles and carbines.

In another month or so you will all (including myself) understand better.

95% of the topics currently on this discussion will be laughable and moot.

If you seriously think that an NPC dropped lightsaber is the same kind of beast as a soon to be player crafted light saber you are crazy.

Just think about it.

The developers know that players will own anything in the game within a month. They know that any lightsabers on NPCs will be looted and available. There is simply no way they are going to deter attention away from the FSCS/Jedi objective by making these dropped sabers worth ANYTHING.

You will see. One more month or so tops and I myself can show you.

I think I am done with this board. Getting a little too crazy. I mean really, I am enjoying the game, walking the path I am being presented, having a good time. It seems like a lot of the rest of those here are simply pissed off they don;t get what they want when they want it.
