Thread: how do you know what CL pet you can tame?

I have max lvl of pets 25, Taming wild creatures 35, Taming Vicious Creatures 20. I was wondering if there was a way to find out what creatures i can tame? it would save alot of time wandering around in the wild.

In the skills windows, in the bottom left corner, look for the "max pet level" modifier. This will tell you what you want. Note that with aggressive creatures you may need BE clothes to reach that CL until you have the Taming line.

ok thanks for the reply. So what is the point of the Taming Wild Creatures mod?

Tame Wild = Non-aggressive
Tame Vicious = Aggressive
These mods are somewhat arbitrary in that they determine your chances for taming a creature, but do not have a one-for-one correlation with CL. The higher it is, the more likely you successfully tame something.
While the "Max Pet Level" mod is directly equal to how high a creature you can control. Pre-CU, one's Tame Vicious modifier could be low enough that you might not be able to reach the Max Pet Level mod. I do not know if this is still true or not. (+25 BE clothing was almost always sufficient to make the Max Pet Level the limiting factor though.)
