"The response we have gotten so far from folks in the community has been overwhelmingly positive."

So what community is HE polling for this info?

Certainly not this one.

Yes, you can say that forum posters are a minority of the total # of players, but all that means is the rest of the players have no voice and no means of providing feedback- therefore, if he's not referring to the forum "community", there is no other community to speak of. It also means that while we may be a small part of the total, each one of us probably represents 3-4 other, silent, players. Apparently the devs have never heard of polls, wherein the results from a small sample are extrapolated within some margin of error to represent the whole.

Unless the devs are running around in-game talking to every single player they run across. Which we know they aren't, as they don't even play their own game.

Do you think a little voice in the back of Tiggs head is telling her what an @sshole she is everytime she posts these lies? Oh and Tiggs got owned by the rest of the dev team or quit. I wonder if it was her conscience that made her quit...

Funny how that "overwhelmingly positive" language is identical in interviews with Torres and Smedley, isn't it? Almost ... like they were working from a script! Like they discussed what to say in a meeting, almost!

Nahhh. Purely spontaneous, I'm sure.

Julio Torres - It has always been our goal to deliver the true immersive online Star Wars experience and Galaxies up until this point simply wasn’t delivering on this. Since we do have several great elements of the game and a very solid infrastructure, we wanted to take what we had and make it more accessible, more true to the Star Wars experience, and most of all – more fun.

Ok. GoodIntentions ( what was that place that good intentions paved the way to?)

Julio Torres - Not so much a drop in terms of current players, but more concern over what was it that made former players leave the game. What was the game not offering that many of these former and current players were looking for?

Easy. Ihave been readingthe forumsfor a while and without accurate polling data I concluded thatthe players wanted just 2 things FIX the BUGS. Some actual content beyond the lovly start and it was great in the beginning (Kinda like the immersion in the NGE. Hits you with a bang and then drops you in the dust.

Julio Torres - Fortunately, Galaxies has a very solid engine that is very adaptable (as shown by the new direction of the fast-action combat as compared to the old turn-based paradigm), so it helped ease the process of enhancing the combat system and other game mechanics. It still had its share of challenges, but after extensive internal and external focus testing, we are very happy with what we have achieved and many players seem to agree.

What turn basedparadigm. Last game to have that was a board game called D & D. Whatwe have now is a time gated paradigm inwhich I can hit the MOB as offten as the cooldown timer allows. The new system STILL HAS THE COOLDOWN TIMER. It is much shorter than before but still there. All they did was change some timers, change some hit strengths andmake targeting dynamic moment by moment. The famous "FPS like" statement.

Julio Torres - For starters, players will now manually acquire their target, so we have removed the lock-on aspect of the combat system. As long as a player has their reticule positioned on their target, they are able to attack the target using a combination of mouse clicks – left click to use primary weapon (i.e. blaster, lightsaber, etc.) and right click to use the special abilities they queue-up using the number keys. This is similar to systems you may have seen in other RPG’s and action-RPG’s.

This is not entirely accurate. If you are shooting at where the creature APPEARS to be but the creature is actually IN YOUR FACE due to lag then you are dead. Had this happen to me a lot in MosEisley. I moved to Mos Entha and the effect went (mostly) away.

Julio Torres - Both will now be much more straight-forward and much more accessible than before. Players will start off by creating the look of their character using a streamlined interface (appearance elements are still as deep as before) and then will choose one of the nine iconic professions of Jedi, Bounty Hunter, Smuggler, Officer, Commando, Spy, Medic, Entertainer, or Trader.

Been too long. Looked like the same interface to me

In terms of progression, players will earn new skills an abilities as they earn experience from quests, hunting, etc. Specialization within a profession will be achieved through various weapons, armor, buffs, and other items.

Julio Torres - Instead of a player being spread-out across multiple professions, they will now find themselves learning (and eventually mastering) one of the nine iconic professions that many of the elements of the previous 30-plus. In addition to their main profession, all players will be able to learn the secondary professions of Politician and Pilot. This new progression makes for a much more accessible, robust, engaging, and enjoyable character development experience that is consistent with the Star Wars universe.

How does this work for the player? under the old system you the player got to choose what elements of your profession you got and you could mix other professions. Under the new system SOE decides EXACTLY what elements you get and EXACTLY when you get them.

Julio Torres - Items including weapons and armor will be rebalanced to fit with the new combat system.

Translation we are nerfing all your valuable weapons and armor.

Additionally, we are adding 80-plus new quests and 12 instanced dungeons, so we are adding plenty of content. We also have some great announcements to share in the coming months that will continue to improve the Star Wars Galaxies experience, so stay tuned.

dungeons? dungeons? How the H* is that starwarsy. Or did I miss some cool books in theExtendedUniverse?

Gamecloud - How large in terms of file size will the update-revamp be made?

Julio Torres - The file size for the enhancements is around 900 MB.

Pretty much a new game.

Julio Torres - We are making the ultimate Star Wars experience for all players and strongly believe these new enhancements will appeal to all players equally, prospective, new, and veterans. Plus, we have lined-up some great incentives for all the veterans that choose to stay with us after the transition.

I strongly believe in the force but that doesn't make it so.

Julio Torres - We actually have a brand new SKU coming out on 11/22 called the Star Wars Galaxies Starter Kit. This new SKU includes both An Empire Divided and Jump to Lightspeed, an exclusive X-Wing or TIE Fighter, and a one-month subscription. Plus, it’s priced at $19.99, so it’s a deal even for players who just want the X-Wing or TIE Fighter! You can also plan on seeing some TV spots for the new Starter Kit in the weeks to come.

Ah yes the one that Amazon let out of the bag.

Julio Torres - The new game enhancements will be launched in the live environment beginning 11/15 to coincide with the release of our 10-day trial offer which gives anyone a chance to check out the newly designed first 10 levels of the game. LucasArts and Sony Online Entertainment are always striving to improve and provide the best experience possible for its Galaxies players, so we will continue this tradition for as long as necessary.

Marketing hype

Julio Torres - The response we have gotten so far from folks in the community has been overwhelmingly positive. That being said, I can’t encourage people enough to see what all the buzz is about for themselves, especially considering there will be a demo available beginning on 11/15.

He must have that selective reading disorder I keep hearing about.

Galaxies has finally become the game it originally set-out to be.

Cool I might even like it but I want the old version back thank you. If I want to play battlefront I will buy it.

I'm starting to have fun now ... I ceated a account on GameCloud and posted the following in reference to the interview:

I would implore people to go to:

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/

and read a random sample of the posts to see what the players are really saying about the massive changes that are being made to their game ... thanks ...

Simple, to the point, and no ranting ...
