Thread: Worth taking just Novice CH?

All sarcasm aside, I have been MCH since just after release. The short answer is no. Heck, even at master, the CH is pretty useless now. The skill tree has been designed to prevent what you want to do. The difference between a BE level 10 pet and level 12 is nothing. The level 12 is usually a missed level 10 anyway. The only CH's left are basically pet collectors, noobs, or people like myself that just hang on to it out of stubborness. I have not used a pet for anything other than RP or goofing off in months. Even the quality high level BE pets are pretty useless. You can get decent armor and buffs and be your own tank with alot less aggravation than using and trying to keep a pet alive and healed.
Cool, thanks. That is the kind of answer I was looking for. I know nothing about CH at all. Only pet I have ever owned is my little R3 unit that I group with for bonus EXP.

i would take exception to this. CH gives better tanking ability than a TKM in the respect that a TKM cant stop tanking take a weapon to deal damage and not expect to get slaughtered...
a rancor one of the most derided higher level wild pets can tank a krayt VERY well when using a looping macro to keep the krayt intimidtated. this allows a ranged proffession to effectively couplethe ability to tankand damage dealing ability together. worthless?? i dont think so. if what your looking for is a CL10-12 pet that can tank rancors and nitesisters for you... your not going to find it. one point that a lot of folks over look when proclaiming TKM the master tank is that yeah they can tank but they cant effectively kill anything that has medium armour or higher neither can a fencer. when they switch to a damage skill they effectively lose that ability to tank.
MCH lets you use specials you might not otherwise have access to and they do not cost you time to use them. no other class can execute two actions at the exact same time the way someone with CH ability can and with proper use understanding of your limitations and powers it is a VERY big advantage. one other advantage is that a CH can pull out specialized pets with tweeked resists and specials for fighting certain types of enemies. they dont cost thousands and thousands of credits to maintain nor Millions to buy like different suits of armour do.
MCH is useful Novice CH is not.

Yes, MCH is useful, if you other skill happens to be the FOTM and Uber. It is useless if your other skills are not combat skills. You would be better with TKM- Master Crafting or MR - Master Crafting. Both take less skill points and are more effective.
I responded to the original question. He asked if getting Novice CH was worth it. He does not have enough points to Master. We seem to agree that it is not worth it for him.
