Given the news about the combat rebalance, I was surprised that the CH boards were not on fire. I expected it to be full of posts with people complaining and threatening to close their accounts, etc. But it's not happening.

'Why is that?' I wondered, and then realized it is probably because there are only about 4-5 Hardcore CH's that post regularly, people who have CH as their main profession. They are probably too jaded to post, or they have found something in CH to keep them here this long. Myself, I have only wanted to be a CH and a TKM. Those are the only two professions I have worked for and never surrendered a skill from. It took me 4 months to get CH, I didn't grind it.

So now my finger is hovering over the cancel account button.

'Don't do anything rash!' I keep repeating to myself.

Look at it this way. We have 7+ months of practice at this level of balance. EVERY other profession will be new to their limits. This is both a blessing and a curse.

As usual, I'm falling back on the questions I ask myself when getting ticked off with a games designers:

1.) Am I having fun.

2.) Is there anyting I'd rather be playing?

The answers are:

1.) Sort of - but since I'm not following the 'vision' I'm feeling distinctly left out. I don't want a Jedi, never did, and the PvP aspect leaves me cold. I hate PvP in stat-based games - always degenerates into mass ganking sessions splattered with l33tspe4k. I'm not enjoying combat generally at all ATM - unless you are FOTM, youstink, with no chance of reprieve orimprovement in the near future(it's the second bit of that that gets my goat).

2.) Not at the moment - although there are a couple of games comng out in September whiich look pretty tasty (and I beta'd one of them).

So I'll keep on playing for now. I'll probably buy JTL (I'm fortunate in that the cost is trivial to me). However, in September I know of one game that is coming out that I will definitely be taking a crack at. At that point my avatars will go into the cryo-chamber for a 'rest', Whether they return or not is heavily dependant on how much I miss my pets and how the new game shapes up.

An extended wait for the combat rebalance will not stop me looking elsewhere, nor bells and whistles on game aspects in which I have no interest. No doubt the devs have thier reasons for neglecting 70%+ of the playerbase - but as one of the 70% I'm seriously underwhelmed.

SWG will be competing against fuller games with more content, when 18 months into the game whole swathes ofSWG are incomplete or have been "adjusted" into oblivion. I've been waiting for "jam tomorrow" since january. I already took a break and came back just before the reblalance was expected - now it looks like I'll be waiting for another 6 months - with every indication that the planned "content" will be centered on Jedi/PvP.

When the game I have in mind comes out (it isn't WoW BTW), I'll be going to check it out.

From what I can see today I doubt if I'll be coming back..........

Okay, I read it . . . I'd already decided I'd be moving to a new game, so this just reinforces I made the right decision. For me it wasn't rash . . . I've been with this community waiting for a game, or one that worked right, for three and a half years now. I'm burnt on waiting.

Its actually a quiet crash. Most players myself included had all our hopes pinned on this patch. Now I realize it will never come. I will always hope that the game gets fixed, but now that hope is no longer a tree holding me up out of the water. Do not be deceived. Most of us have realized that its over, and there is nothing we can do about it. Right now I am takeing an inventory of my items, and figureing out where to put what. I know I want to pull up the houses. So I will need to cram all my stuff on my avatars and in my bank boxes. I got 418 spaces. I will come on the forums to check in periodically.

Be rash why give money to people that hate you.

Theres nothing rash about cancelling. They garantee your toon will not get wiped for three months, and even after that they dont wipe, just dont garantee.

Quit the game for a few months, come back when you think the game has improved. Put allot of maintenance into your houses and put the most valuable into your backpacks and banks. Trust me you'll feel allot better when you finally do hit the cancel button. A break from the game is very refreshing and I encourage it.
