1st off, i have been playing this game since august last year....
this is my alt account my main i closed down cos i got bored with him and decided to let him lapse a bit...
I took up fencer with my rodian character because it was the only combat proffession i have yet to try, funny thing is combat wise it is my absolute favorite now, wish i would have done it ages ago...
in my search to find a 2nd/and or support proffession decided what the heck ill become a ch....
CH i played in the early days of the game was my 1st novice elite proffession i ever got... this was before the nerf, where you could get xp for each pet you had out, when pets could actually tank for you instead of me having to tank for my pets these days or so it appears.... (only 2211 ch now..)
I have to say I can deal with my pets getting wooped left and right for now and that they benefit me in no way other than the pure joy i get from just being a ch for some reason.... hopefully this will be fixed soon witht he revamps ahead...
But the one thing that really gets under my skin as i level up this proffession is, the ungodly amount of xp required to lvl this proffession that has been nerfed to hell and back....
think about it i was running gurk lairs for the hell of it tonite, on avg per gurk i was getting ch xp in the high 300's almost 400. at the same time i was earning combat XP that was more than my damn ch xp i was taking in....
i looked at all the skill boxes for ch , and guestimating in my head (havent done the exact numbers but..) by the time i get to master ch... (i cant kill nightsisters for 1k xp nearly as efficently as just doing gurk lairs, actualy make mroe doing gurks or other mobs similar) ... so by the time i get master ch, if we compare apples to oranges here, i could have pikeman, fencer, tkm, and swords..... ummmmmm
again just guestimating but i dont think im that far off here.... it seems kinda pathetic that the devs nerfed the hell out of the usefulness of this proffession but left all the requirments in play....
I love the idea of ch , i love my pets, im gonna master it...... but i resent the fact that for the effort being put into it, im not getting much in return.......i value my time, i play to have fun, not feel like im getting boned, cos i try to be different instead of another fotm template... at least give pets stronger attacks, armor or something..
dont mean to come off wrong here and tick anyone off...
just something that has been bothering me as i slaughter trillions or critters and exterminate entire species in my quest to become a master creature handler

Oh, I hear you.
Look at it this way: the path of the Jedi is painted in blood in this game. Kill, kill, kill. There is an alternate, non-violent path, but it's been made even more difficult than the kill method.

I hate to say this, but, this seems to be the new dev methodology- massive grind, little reward. Look at jedi, the supposed end-game, the final result of a potential year-long grind: it's barely better than an elite combat prof you can grind in a week. And I'm guessing as more people join the jedi ranks, the more it will have to be brought down in power. Then there's the FS quests. Mother of all massive grinds, and it gives almost no enhancements depending on your profession (ZERO for crafters/healers/support personnel, a little for combat folks).
So, like everything else about CH, we just got there waaay ahead of everyone else. :-/

It takes a ton of XP, yes, but only when compared to today's state of the game. Think, how hard would it be to master a combat proffession without buffs? Armor encumbrance would mean something, ham cost would mean something, damage would mean something....450k xp for the last box of a combat profession would be torture. Yet a creature handler only has to get 140k for the last box. That doesn't seem so very bad.
Though I will say in practicallity, buffs do exist and thus in comparison we have to work harder to master...
Also, I believe that the weapon experience to jedi experience ratio is 30:1, while the CH xp is 9:1, however if you multiply 140x3.3, it comes out barely over 450,000....
What I do? Group. Oh, the local doctor needs herbivore meat, then a giant malkloc hunt is on! Groups help the CH-an enemy gives a set amount of xp for your pet, so larger groups kill each enemy faster without diminishing your XP.

You might want to play with the CL pet you are using. Each MOB seems to have a "sweet spot" CL that give you the most XP. For me, on Dant, that was a CL 15 pet. On Pickets CL25 gave me 300XP, CL15 gave me 500XP, and CL12 gave me 390XP. It was the same for most MOBs on Dant.
That said, I started a MTK/MCH alt from scratch. Even though I was concentrating on leveling CH I mastered TK before I got to 2222 CH. Every box of CH took as long as a box of Combat XP on the TK. It is now the slowest profession to master that I know of and I have played most. I think when you do the math you need something like the equivalent of 1.2 million weapon xp.

I think that mastering CH now is a very good thing and what should be done is to get others weaker .. combat revamp. The only profession that will be glad is CH all others will feel less powerful.
