Hey all,
So many of you have related some excellent taming stories, so I decided to share mine.
My friend on my server has been on a rare baby binge since the patch went in. He's provided me with two mantigrue screechers in exchange for some +25 taming cloth (he's very kind) and has acquired himself two more of those, plus a great plains stalker, arachne widow, merek death's head, and probably a rhoa kwi or two. I'm too lazy to remember, but needless to say, his hunting spurred me to do some of my own.
Anyhow, I always liked the rares, so I decided to set out in search of something he doesn't have... a swamp stalker. Always liked the gurrcat body, and they're great overall pets. So, I made note of the waypoint that was in TivoTenook's screenshot from HIS swamp stalker tame, and did a quick swamp stalker search on the forums, finding a post that suggested Moenia was also a good place to look.
I fly to Moenia, and head outside town. 200m from town, a red dot among yellows in the swamp on my radar. An adult swamp stalker! It's aggroing all the yard trash (they're vicious little things), and decides to come for me, because it caught me off guard and I had forgotten to scent mask. So... I burstrun, get away. Call my pet, drop it with a couple T-21 shots to the head. Wait 5 minutes, a second adult. Kill that one. Wait 5 minutes, a third adult, that one dies too.
5 minutes later... a swamp stalker (baby). I can't even believe it. I store my pet, drop the guns, and go to tame. Well, it decides to be like its parents and starts to run around attacking everything... gets itself attacked by 4 spineflaps, which are no match for an adult stalker, but they are tearing up the baby. Spraystick all the spineflaps, then try to tame again. The baby is under 50% health. It aggros me, I run. Try again. Aggros, I run. Fiesty little guy. Third time's a charm, I tame it.

I can hardly believe my luck with this, thought I'd have to share. First spawn, less than half-hour after I start my search, within sight of Moenia. Of course, this was probably the only bit of luck I'll have for a while, but it's a welcome gift. I'll be heading out to find another this week I think, so I can have a nice pair to follow me around.

Ok, I'm DEFINITELY playing the lotto.
Out looking for rhoa kwi pack leader and bull rancor babies. First spawn of the day with a rhoa kwi pack leader, I kill the adults, tap the lair, a baby spawns. Tamed.
All my rares have been first spawns. Heading for rancor country now... we shall see.

Really? That pretty much eliminates any potential danger of trying to tame a baby. If they don't aggro you, then you can just sit there hitting /tame until you're successful...

I think he means argoing you just because they see you, not due to a failed taming attempt.

Beautiful cat. I have a level 63 gurrcat that's colored like a swamp stalker and probably as big. Going out and looking for the rare thing seems very tempting to me. And good luck with the bull rancor hunt! And does your friend have a gaping spider queen? That's the rare I'm currently after along with the great plains stalker. The taming experience you had with the swamp stalker is just golden.
