Chances are the high end BE pets are going to need stat adjusted anyway. So I wouldn't buy any BE pets unless I already had some. The stats are averaged for the level the creature is (if you adjust to level), so you will end up with a good average pet for the level it is. Either way it doesn't matter. Most pets will be similar damage-wise and health-wise for the level they are. I wouldn't go as far to say that they are cookie-cutter, because there are slight differences in each. To me they all still have personality and that's what I like the most about them. Back to what pet to get? Get something as high in level as you can get. OR... buy a nice BE pet in the upper 60's and adjust to level and you will end up witha nice rounded pet for that level. The biggest pet I've found so far level-wise is the arachne hatchling at level 62.
