Thread: Best path for a new CH to climb the skilltrees?

Can anyone offer advice on what order I should go up the skill trees so I have the most fun? I'm not trying to be 'uber', I am training Creature Handler just for the fun of using all those pets I can make as a BE

I started with 0100 as my first box and it may be a day or two beforeI have another to train, but wondered how best to climb the skill tree.

I read the FAQ and studied the abilities granted with each tree. Being able to teach a pet the 'trick' command looks useful, as well as amusing, but I'm not sure what else to work on first.

Making your own mounts seems a great skill so going up that fourth tree would let me make CL10 pets for friends and mount them. (I don't try to make money from selling pets since I never really understood them *grins* I work mainly in tissues - but I'm going to learn by being a CH... )

Anyhelpful suggestions appreciated.

I usually go:

1111

So I can teach all the useful commands.

ThenI go:

4111

So I get the skill to tame vicious creatures.

Then:

4114

So I can have 2 pets at the same time, and I can teach the mount command.

THEN!:

4414

So I can store more pets.

Then I go for Master.

When I start a new CH, I take the following level 1 skills in this order:

  1. Training

  2. Management

  3. Empathy

Then I alternate between Training, Taming, and Management because I find the basic abilities of each of those trees (Pet Storage, Taming Vicious Creatures and being able to pull more than one pet at a time) useful. I work to get Training to 4 first, however (why bother being able to tame vicious creatures if you have no place to put them?). Once I have Training, Taming and Management to 4, then I work on Empathy (which, in my opinion, is the least valuable of the CH skills).

Me personally, I always did

1-1-1-1

then went

1-1-1-3 so I could use the 2 pets for management 3

then I fill in the blanks from there. Might go different rout this time though sense I'm starting over.

Just my suggestions, to a BE. Taming II allows you to tame/train aggo skins. This sounds like something you would need but you can make tissues that a Taylor can turn into +25 Taming Vicious which would solve this problem for you on all but the very high CL skins. Training II gives you the guard command which can be quite useful. The commands in the rest of the Training are not that useful. In the Emphathy line your pet only needs one trick command to heal his mind damage and wounds. No other commands are all that critical in this line. The Management tree will give you two commands in big demand group and mount. So, I would work on 0214 probably 0110, 0210, and then work up the Management line. After that, you want to just train to either raise you CL of pets you can use or to increase the number of pets you can hold. At 0214 you should be able to handle CL 28 and hold 10 pets in your data pad. They do take a while to grow up. Hope that helps.

I like taking 1-1-1-1 first, in whatever order, though Taming usually last. That gives all the basic useful commands and the xp is easiest to acquire.

After that I like filling up the rows, so 2-2-2-2, 3-3-3-3, then 4-4-4-4. I do this because again the xp is lower, and every box adds to your max pet level and most give you additional commands. More commands mean more xp, so it is actually more efficient this way if you are doing tame and release. (As a BE this is even more true since you can make junk pets to eek out a bit more xp.)

Within the lines I like Training because of the extra pet storage. Taming is nice for the last two boxes to be able to teach special abilities. Management 4 is nice for the ability to make mounts, but how often will you use it? Management 3 is also nice, but since you do not get twice the xp anymore, it is not as useful. Empathy is best left for last.
