I am looking for information on how the various pet commands work, for example Guard, Patrol Column Formation and so forth.

Most of the commands are self-explanatory...some of the more obscure ones...

Befriend = target a fellow player, and give the command to your pet, makes THAT player able to COMMAND your pet. Be careful...the other person can get your pet into trouble...and (usually) your pet won't obey your commands anymore (until you store and call again).

Guard = this makes your pet auto-attack anything that goes agressive against your player. This setting sticks until you store (I've tried issuing the command again to take it off, but it never worked for me).

Clear Patrol Point = this clears a patrol point from the group of patrol points you setup.

Get Patrol Point = this sets a patrol point for your pet - you have to be standing on the spot you want set, then issue the command...then move to another spot, rinse, repeat.

Patrol = this command makes your pet patrol using the patrol points you set...the pet walks to each patrol point...pauses...then continues.

Column = this command makes your pet(s) line up in a straight line (column) from your position and facing direction - it's kind of wierd...it doesn't align directly forward or to side, kind of at a diagonal.

Wedge = this command makes your pet(s) line up in a wedge "^" formation from your position and facing direction.

Other than to position your pets, I don't see real benefits for the last two commands...I rarely use them in combat. The pets will follow you in those configurations if you move around after setting them.
