Hi, I just bought my first pet, a Carrion Spat, last night. The vendor description said it was a CL 10 mount, with around 1k HAM. I checked the creature, and sure enough, CL 10. It looked good to go. Bought it, then took it outside to call it for the first time (I'm a non-creature handler). I used the datapad in my backpackand it said I had insufficient skill to tame the creature, but it went to my Datapad anyways. I called the Carrion Spat, and this little bird thing that came up to my knee appeared. I examined it and I was getting "CL 1 (10)" and "Health 145 (1450)" and all the other statistics with a number then a larger number in parenthesis (the ones I thought I was purchasing). Also, I could only feed & store the Little Spit, I could not get it to follow me. I'm at a loss. I have tired to contact the vendor, but recieved no response as of this posting. All I know about the vendor was that he is a Master Bio-Engineer. Did I get conned, do I have to feed it, or do I have to somehow train this little turkey? If so, how? Thanks in advance for your help!

Well, you should not have been able to get it to go to your datapad. You need to be a CH to tame a deed. Must be a new bug. Your spat is now a baby. It will take about 1 week to grow to full size and abilities. You will need to locate a CH and probably a MCH to teach it commands. They will also be able to name it for you. You have to be pretty high in the CH Skills to train the mount command and the thing will need to be almost full grown to train it as a mount. Some CH's will charge for this and some will not. Depends on your server and how nice you ask. lol

Creatures/pets when just tamed or bought from vendor/bazaars...once TAMED - will be BABIES - ie their lowest lvl (which is their MAX lvl divided by 10).

So, the first day, they are babies. They can be trained in commands (by a CH), but in the case of mounts , they CANNOT be trained as a mount until they are 70-100% of full growth (depending on species and size).

Giant Carrion spats are the only exception to the mount training rule above - they can be mount trained right after taming - due to their size. Now, ONLY CH's can use Giant Carrion spats - because they are agressive creatures.

Ok, so how does my pet grow???

It takes 10 days to fully grow - if the pet just sits in your datapad. If you take the pet out at least once a day, it *may* take9 days (or 9 1/2 or so).

Basicaly, for a 10th lvl (max) pet, when it's 7th lvl (for some dewbacks) or when it's 8/9th lvl (for most) or when it's 10th lvl (for the smaller dewback and bol speciies) then it can be trained as a mount.

Now, your bug of the bought (inventory) pet going into your datapad - yes, that's a bug. Only CH's can "tame" a BE pet from inventory to datapad. BE's cannot do so. This is the first time I've heard of that bug...wierd.

Hope this helps - also, check the forum for other postings on how to feed, heal wounds, etc. your pet(s).

LOL......(not laughing at you, I thought the same thing when I tamed my first creature as a tamer)

1.your pet is a baby and growing in your datapad

2.you need to see a master creature handler and have it trained as a mount

what server are you on? If it Gorath (not likely, what are the chances) send me a tell around 7pm est and I will meet you and give you a hand. If not just find a MCH and they will more than likely be glad to help you out.

Thanks a ton for the help guys! So, I need to...

1) wait about 10 days or so for it to mature

2) Have a Creature Handler teach it some new tricks & name it (gotta think of one first!)

(BTW, what is the process for that? Do i have to transfer the pet?)

3) Have a MASTER Creature Handler teach it to be a Mount when its big enough.

4) Don't step on it

5) Report a possible bug

So do I have to feed this little guy?

Again thanks for all of your help!

Well it doesn't have to be a master CH, it has to be one with CH 0/0/0/4, or a Pack Master (that is the title). As for feeding, it can eat ALMOST anything you can. In my experience, they will not eat things I have foraged that end up in jars (like a jar of foraged bugs or berries). This also means that they can eat some expensive stat foods if you are not careful. They eat the first item of food in your inventory....starting from the top left. Buy some cheap food and keep it near the top. Chances are you will not need to feed it often, because you will find out soon enough that unless it is a crazy awesome BE non-ch pet you won't use it for combat (the only time you can feed a pet is when it has sustain health or action wounds, feeding it will cure there wounds).

When the time comes to get a CH to train it, you just use the normal trade window and drag your pet from the datapad. In my experience, you will not have a problem finding a CH to help you. We tend to be a bunch of softies hehe.

Good luck and have fun with your new pet!

Yes, might only be a week. It is bugged and varies. When you see the CL is 10 it is grown

2) Have a Creature Handler teach it some new tricks & name it (gotta think of one first!)

(BTW, what is the process for that? Do i have to transfer the pet?)

Yes, you will have to trade it to a CH to have it trained.

3) Have a MASTER Creature Handler teach it to be a Mount when its big enough.

Yes, does not have to be a Master but must know how to train mount.

4) Don't step on it

Little bugger is fast. lol

5) Report a possible bug

You can. It will be ignored by SOE however. It is a deffinate bug.

So do I have to feed this little guy?

The only time you have to feed a pet is to cure it's health and action wounds. It will eat anything that you can eat. Mind damage and mind wounds are cured by having it do tricks. You can heal the pets health and action damage with either regular stims, the kind that work on players, or pet stims. BE's make the pet stims and if you have novice medic you can use stim B's on yourself and the pet.
