Ok, first off I am a pretty new player and an even newer CH. My original character idea was a great trandoshan hunter, (master ch, master pikeman, 0030 ranger) but I have recently become verydisenfranchized with combat after being exposed to armor + doc buff + solo group on dantooine for the first time yesterday... it was like playing with god mode on and got boring REAL fast and just plain didn't feel right.... and since I cannot find anyoneelse who really doesn't like to play with those things (armor is fine I guess, but it doesn't fit my character) I am losing intrest in my characterand would like some suggestions on what to do.

Should I keep my character going towards CH-Pikeman-Ranger and hope that combat rebalance will make me happier?

If I went CH-BE-Ranger would I have a real hard time killing things? My pets atm do horrible damage so I am not sure if I would be able to do missions with this build, but I have never used a BE pet.

if I went CH-BE-Pikeman do you think the BE side of me would add enough pet power to help my weaker melee attacks?

Is CH-BE-Master Medic too redundant since I could already make pet meds with BE?

And lastly, is there any point in going Doctor-CH? Would heals/buffs help my pets alot?

Obviously I really want to be pet-centred, but I don't know what to do! Any help is greatly appreciated!

Only you can answer that. Just because everyone else uses armor and buffs does not me you HAVE to.

Yes, you would not be able to kill anything but low level stuff with just pets. You might be able to do medium level but it would take forever to do a lair and cost you a bundle in Stims healing your pets

No, BE pets are better than wild but they are not that much better. They only do kinetic damage like wild pets and most medium to high mobs have high kinetic resistance.

Probably. I also do not think you have enough skill points for it.

You will probably run into a skill point problem here two. Most people do not buff pets for a number of reasons. First, on a 12k ham pet another k or two does not make that much difference. Second, the buffs dissappear when the pet autostores or you store the pet because it can not keep up with your bike.

There are a number of builds that would allow you to do this. I think Master Rifleman Master Creature Handler with some Ranger is a very good build. The pets tank and you shoot from a safe distance. This is also one of the most versitile builds because the rifle does various types of damage and can target specific ham pools. Most people that go this way also get Novice Medic to use Stim B's.

You forget that this adds also to the second attributes (strength, cons, stam, quick).

In this case, your pet becomes simply unvulnerable, HAM is not decreasing anymore, only the mind... do a trick from time to time and you're just fine.

I had one of my pets buffed once, Health and Action bars did not show any blank area!

I'm fairly new myself and just recently hit master rifleman. I'm also 2-3-2-3 CH working toward master, master scout, and novice medic so I can use stim packs. I like the mix. I'm like you buffs and armor kind of make it pointless from the challenge perspective, although there are a few beasts out there challenging even with those (just wait till a kimogilla disease spams you). I usecomp and buffs when I'm going resource collecting and want to gather a lot quickly (its how I make credits).

For general fun and challenge I will go out with no armor or buffs and take ona planet. It forces you to think a lot more and use your specials wisely. I don't use my pets to tank as much as I could because they will agro an entire nest then incap leaving me with a lot of angry critters. I will use my rifleman skills like conceal shot to slowly work a large nest down to size. The pets are great if things go poorly since they can distract the enraged critters or agro on NPC to keep off the death blow but, at least for me, they haven't been that great a main combat tool.

If you are on corbantis look me up I'll be happy to go hunting some of the moderate sized critters with you. I'm still learning how to handle the bigger stuff without a lot of bonuses but slowly getting there.

I am currently MCH, Master Fencer(allows me to tank if needed, with Center of Being), but if I stay 5 meters from the mob I usually don't have to. I have medic 4/1/0/0 to allow for better healing, which helps a lot with the high HAM pets. I kept entertainer 0/0/0/2 so I could heal my own bf and wounds, but I might switch that to marksman so I can pull from ranged. It's up to you. I have a good friend who's MCH/Pike and he loves fighting alongside his pets just like I do. No armor, no buffies. It's called "No Fear" hunting lol.

Scrin, My two cents. I am Master creature handler, master carbineer with a little medic and politician. Creature handler was my first profession and even with the nerfs I still love it.

With MCH/MC as my main professions I am pretty strong and can even pvp pretty well. I have learned how to use my pets and have a Rhoa Kwi Packleader which is good in pvp it has knockdown my macro for fighting with it is effective. However I really shine in pve. I am able to get good paying missions with my pets and have completed all the themeparks rebel and imperial included by soloing with my pets. I use medic to add to the healing of my pets and myself when I take it on the chin. I am a mayor so I have to have points go to politician which is a drag but I do it for the town. I gave up ranger to do this, I miss ranger but get along pretty well without it.

I hate the current buff armor situation and I hope developers do something about it. The only time I get buffs is for the corellian corvette and the death watch bunker. The balance may help but that will be a long way off.

A suggestion for something to do. I have a museum on corbantis server and it is the best collection on the server. I specialize in finding rare and unusual loots. MCH/MC is great for this an my badge collection and museum are proof a lot can be done as a MCH/MC. In short MCH/ any good fighting profession makes a good combo and will keep you interested in the game if you like to explore and hunt for rare pets. I love my pets!

On our guild hunts, I'll use buffs since our doc gives them to us but for anything else I usually don't.

As an MCH/ almost master carbine, I can take out Screechers and Rancors unless they overspawn in which case I can run like hell with my pets holding them off. I do use armor since otherwise I won't last but a couple of hits. To me, it's more interesting to play without buffs; it makes it a challenge.
