Thread: CH/BH having problems

As a CH/BH, when I hunt Jedi I have to whip out my creatures and attack before they run away. However, let's suppose my target is in the middle of nowhere. I pull up on my speeder, and start calling my pets. What do you think my mark will do as I sit and wait for the 15-second timer on EACH of my pets to count down?

1) He runs (no speeder). I run after him, but I can't attack him until all of my pets are called, since combat will cancel the call. If he uses force run, I'm screwed because my pets can't even keep up with me when I'm running. Now I could KD him if he tries to, say, run into a house, but KD doesn't last long enough to make up for the pet call timer that has now been increased (plus I have to wait till I'm out of combat).

2) He runs (with speeder). Same as #1. Normally I could disable his speeder, but I still have to wait until my pet calls are finished.

I could pull out my pets ahead of time, before he sees me, but my pets will never be able to keep up. I'll pull up and start attacking, five minutes later they will FINALLY run up and start doing damage.

So basically the only people I can hunt as a CH are those who are in cities and who won't think it's weird that I randomly pull up and start whipping out my creatures. This is very frustrating! What is the reason behind the call timer and the can't-call-pets-in-combat rule? The ONLY reason I can think of for not being allowed to call pets during combat are dueling reasons. You challenge someone to a duel, halfway through you pull out a pet and start pounding him with it (I use pounding in the loosest sense since creature damage is pretty pathetic).

I feel that this is a completely undesirable aspect of the CH profession, and would like to see it removed in the publish that will address CHs (timetable: unknown).

I realize Ko-aIri has partially included this issue in the "Top Five" list, but I'd like to see the timer completely removed, and the ban against calling pets during combat also removed. I may be one of the few CH/BHs, but let's face: when you're hunting with someone else, there can't be anything more annoying to them to wait at every single lair while you call your pets, then wait even longer after the lair is destroyed for you to store your pets.

I believe the only reason it's still in the game is because rangers wanted us to remain more useless unless we used their camps to call pets instantly, which is pretty much the only benefit of them now. You could try pulling out a camp when you get to your target and put all your pets to the toolbar, but you'll still have to wait a few seconds between calls to avoid autostore. Since we do have novice scout, we can craft camps....

Thanks for theidea! Next problem for me to figure out- overcoming lag when placing a camp . Someday, somehow, I will get my choice of professions to work out . . .

You can be sneaky. Extend your radar to as far as you can, when you can just make him out. At about 500m or so, dismount from your speeder. Walk near him, but not in a beeline, for instance, if he is at a 90 angle to you, walk at about a 75 angle, and keep him a bit parralell (pretty sure I messed up that word)to you. Break out your pets, and a harvey droid.

Odds are, he would have seen you at 500m or so anyway. By the time you make to300m, they might ask if you are a BH. If you are sneaky, youwill have a CH tag up. You could reply with something along the lines of how you heard there was a good spawn in this area of ________ for your guild tailor/armorsmith/chef/be. You could always ask what they are grinding away at. Or, you could see for yourself and just use that for what you are hunting after. Then you ask if you could group with them. The reason could be for that group harvest bonus.

I have done this before and it has done pretty good.

Rarely do I actually talk to the mark when I do this. Either he freaks and runs off at the sight of anyone in the area, or he just assumes I'm a CH and doesn't care. I'll usually approach on my mount, and I won't head towards him, instead stopping to check each nest along the way in his general direction, and taming any babies that I find. I'll have my CH tag up, battle armor equipped, and I'll usually have an instrument equipped so as to look even less threatening (plus, I don't want to auto-attack any babies by accident). Once I get close enough, its not too hard to pull out another creature or two and sick them on him.

The part about having your MCH title up is particularily good, as no onewould eversuspect a profession as broken as CH of being a bounty hunter . Thing of it is, you still have enough SP after CH to pick up some good BH or rifle specials or something....

The reasoning behind the delay is a throw back to earlier days in SWG. For quite some time you could not call out a pet, droid, or vehicle unless you were in a city, outside your personal residence, or in a camp. People didn't like this because that meant almost everyone had to have some scout to be an effective class so the devs removed this but added in the timer to make up for the time it took to construct a camp. Now if you were to remove the timer it would make camps utterly useless since entertainers never use them and medical professions can call out a droid that allows them to heal. However this and the new smaller groups really hurts the CH now. Hunting groups will not wait for us to pull out our 3 narglatches or other pets and our pets take up needed group slots. Problem is I don't think they can remove the timer just for pets since it is the same timer for droids and vehicles. As it is camps are dead anyway even with the timer so the timer should be removed and the whole camping tree changed to something else that can benefit a scout. Pets need to be able to be grouped but not take up player group slots.

Easy fix is to implement an idea I had =p (ok, perhaps others have had it as well)

I posted somewhat on this on a mount speed thread, but you could just add:

Max Creature Speed +X (up to a preset speed cap) - to every box of the CH profession. They could also add a

Call Creature Time -3 (sec) - to each of the top 4 and master boxes of the CH profession to alleviate the timer all together, but keep the benefit to people who dedicate those precious skill points to the master title.

Well what blows my mind is the fact that the timer was still active even after I placed a camp. I mean, sheesh, I set up camp, and still got the 15 second timer. ROFL. What gives?

i'm a master CH, master BH, pistoleer 0/0/4/4, enhanced reflexes 0/4/0/0. Your problem with trying to get pets out in time is really a simple matter...really :-) call them before you reach your target and have them follow you, i also leave the tag above me as master CH to further remove suspition. When i move towards them , and getting close i don't keep a course of running straight at them to spook them, i sorta pick an angle to look like i'm gonnajustpassby them. When i get my target within 35m i root them and give order to attack, unless they have a bike out, if they do i still try to start off with a root, but set the pets to start attack on there bike to destry there escape..this works well because by the time root dies there bike is toast and there in combat and cann't call a back up bike...i have not had to destroy a bike yet however, due to root always hits. but something else to consider, if your far enough away and you tell pets to attack without you that does not put YOU in combat just the pets and your target. Hope this helps :-)

as was said above your pets can be told to attack at 150m now and you havent initiated combat at that point, only the pets. can be useful sometime if they are hard enough. once pet specials work again ie: intim / KD / strong disease etc this will be an amazing thing (sure to be nerfed ?! lol)

have a macro running along taskbar with getting a camp from a crate + using it + store bike + pause + call + pause + call + pause + call droid + gr g f. this macro takes me about 4.4 seconds total i think (!) but i am CH0424 only so 2 pets + droid. maximum (add a couple of seconds to call a 3rd pet and a factional trooper etc). if you dont stand in the middle of the camp if may still say 15 seconds calling time but worse case scenario you move slightly into middle of camp and most of your pet group will call. you then hit F9 or wherever the non called pet is and youre off 1 second later worst case scenario with a couple of pets not called at 1st b4 droid.

remember that facts such as wearing battle armor and being a CH generally are your best mask from jedi who foolishly think we are no threat . use your tag to hide and wear the "wrong" (non-recon) armor until the last minute. now timers are down u canequip a whole armor suit of different pieces in about3 seconds (have this running alongside other macros of items / pets on the same taskbar to save time obviously...)

dont use KD as your 1st attack whatever you do LOL. get CM0003 paralyze or Pistoleer0003 improved stopping shot or the equivalent root in rifleman or carbineer or smuggler (concussion shot ?). also a snare is good for when the root runs out. KD is last resort LOL dont use it that much as jedi will /KnockdownRecovery and be up 0.2 seconds later hehe

make sure your pet is fast. use a gurrcat style cat pet and make it ft follow the jedi target. if a ranged pet turn ranged attacks off on it until you close to the jedi mark. if it stays within 20m of the jedi he cant cloak and get away keep him rooted / snared / KD'd obviously to avoid him escaping.

use both ranged cyberneticarms. get a decent high damage rifle and fire at 80m range. dont get stuck at 35m range all the time even if pistols is your speciality. jedi can KD saber throw you at that range +if you use ranged accuracy stuff likeDeuterinium Pyro + Crispic etc even a novice marksman pistols specialistcan instantly be +400 rifle accuracy

and finally - use foods drinks spices etc on yourself AND your pets. get buffed, get the pets buffed and use FELBAR the CH's best friend new pet food health buff + regen

my finalcomment is to EITHER drive right upto the jedi and fight immediately using the element of surprise and totally ignoring pets etc (unless he runs for 15 seconds!) OR call your whole pet solo group and creep up, be covert and dont talk to him whatever you do (i dont agree thatasking to join groups etc works, maybe its reputation but for me jedi will always run no matter what i try LOL). start the fight at your chosen moment with a root and back off so he cant touch you. he will hopefully waste time fighting pets and not healing if youre lucky but whatever happens, fighting in melee - 35m range is foolish. if you have no success casually calling your group and wandering up slowly to jedi and starting fight at 80m range then use the camp-petgroup-call macro above.

good luck

1. Basic camps are your friend. Put camp in your hot bar so you can call it immediately. Put pets in hot bar and click after you ensure you areINthe camp that has been placed. Do this several hundred meters from where themark is.

2. As someone has pointed out, pets can be sent in 150 from the target. They can hold aggro on the jedi while you zoom in from elsewhere.

3. Get a high-powered rifle--trandoshan rifle is great (dmg 520-1040)--range is 65m and if you have stopping shot you can root them from 65m away.

Somethingto be wary of - spotters. Just like BH have spotters, so do Jedi. Try to make sure you avoid any players on your radar if at all possible. Only one that is impossible to avoid is a cloaked jedi. Keep an eye out for "cloak" UI spam. If you see any, look like you are just out hunting with your pets and not trailing a mark. Having CH tag up is good for this
