Last Friday, I think it was the 26th of February, my jedi friend found a baby bull that popped out of a wild lair. He immediately /telled me and shouted at me in Teamspeak to get to Dathomir. I was like,"Wha? What"? "A baby bull just popped!! Get here quick!"

So I take my ship to Dathomir Outpost in a hurry, make sure my taming clothes were on...didn't bother with a buff as I would sooner die than kill it. I also made sure my powerhammer or scythe were not equipped and peace macro was running in case it agroed.

Then with a very sick groan, my friend says,"Ohhhhhhh, nooooooo".

"What??What happened??", I asked.

"A singing mountain clan rancor tamer killed it", he replied.

"Huh??"

I just about cried. Even my guildmembers said I sounded like I was going to cry. I didn't but I was so very disappointed. I hadn't been that disappointed since TH announced that CU was to be delayed till JTLwas released.

The sad part is that's been the second bull baby I've stumbled across in the past year. Last year I was running around as a Master Ranger/Rifleman collecting meat or hide from rancors and happened across a lair that spawned a baby bull; however, Igrat wasn't looking for one at the time and nobody else in guild was either. I realized at that time how rare it was though didn't figure it would take over a year to find another.

Over the past couple of months and while grinding Dathomir I've been keeping an eye out for a baby for Igrat though many times wild bull rancor lairs will either spawn plain babies or more commonly rancor youths. This time when I came up to the lair I noticed a rancor and a bull rancor so I figured I'd milk it like I do all wild bull lairs to see what comes out. After killing the first two another plain rancor spawned followed by a bull and I killed them both only to have baby bull come out and agro me. I unequipped my weapon and start kiting the baby keeping my distance from him while letting Igrat know that she needs to come tame this guy before the lair pulls a disappearing act. As she's getting ready more bull and normal rancors spawn and join in my train that I have going with the baby.

I'm 3k out from the trade outpost and have 6 different rancors following me around as I'm doing laps around this lair. Those in TS who were in the channel were laughing as I was telling them of what I was doing and at the same time Igrat was telling me that she was getting setup to come snatch the baby. Knowing that she was heading out to my location without buffs and more than likely in her taming clothes I decided that I needed to thin out the group of bull and normal adult rancors so that they wouldn't attack and kill her while she was attempting to tame the baby. I changed my pattern so that the adults would close in on me faster than the baby and made sure to keep at least 20m away from the baby while I attacked the other rancors.

Now that I've changed from doing laps around the lair to zigzagging around trying to kill adult rancors as I pass, a spawn of Singing Mountain Clan pop in to which one of them instantly DB'd the baby. Having 5k of positive faction with the SMC one of the NPCs figured that I was in trouble and needed help. She didn't go after the adults who were attacking me at the time but was determined to kill the baby first. At that point there was just this deep sinking feeling that I've lost something that was very precious to have. I told Igrat and the others in channel about what had happened and as she mentioned her tone changed from joyous to sadden over the events. In retrospect I should have kept them close to the lair and waited until Igrat was near or just flat out died for these would have been better choices than to watch in horror as an NPC whacked the baby. When people say a baby bull rancor is rare I never doubted them but only seeing two in the past 18 months of playing outstanding.

Well this sucks, I just came back to the game after a long break and killed a baby bull lastnight without knowing it was rare =/
