right before the previous patch (a month ago, not this most recent one), i tamed 2 maulers on dath.. and then spent the next 4 days after the patch looking for more maulers on dath.. i have area tracking, and could not find one!..
since that fiasco, i have tamed in excess of 60 mauler babies, given away (no money exchanged) at least 30, sold the rest, and have kept 8 for myself.
here where they are.. 1500m west of the imp outpost on dant, and SW.. and everything in between that pie shape.. they're rarely south of the outpost.
if you're on azahi, you can run about 1200m SW of the imp outpost, and see my house on the hill.. i've had MANY occasions where i logged out at the house, and when i logged back in, there was a mauler lair 50m from my house, with a baby stomping around.
it's also a static FS spawn, i get about 2 FS spawns per hour..
good luck hunting guys.. dant has become rather popular, so i've been staying away for the time being.. too many people hunting for holocrons around my house.. 
one note, there seems to be less mauler lairs since the new player city/mount patch, as some of the "pile of rock" lairs have been converted from mauler/graul lairs, to lesser plain bol lairs.. but they're still around, tamed (3) 2 nights ago, and promptly gave them away.

I hope your not sucking on one now.... no Im just tired of the same **edit** question over and over, is there any reason anyone made the faq? it seems not. And the Imperial's sucking thing was a joke, I hope you lighten up in the future numbnuts(numbnuts not a joke).
