Thread: Corral Plan V.3

Corrals for eggs and milk sound lovely - hate gathering those things. But I want to be able to sell my trained pets! I don't need more storage. I just need a way to sell the ones I have without having to endure Coronet.

Corral with droid out front listing the ones for sale (ones in corral could even count against my limit, not worried about that). Some are in there for eggs and milk, some are for sale. The droid will help customer with naming the pet for them. If they want the commands redone - well, they'll have to find a CH to do it. That really shouldn't be so tough.

Corral maintenance could require chef made food, water, and/or flora ... or meats. It's all the same to me. Food requirements could (probably should) go up with number of animals.

heh...funny thought here...maybe a 'byproduct' of the corral *cough* could be used in flora harvesters to increase productivity.

I just don't forsee the loss of CH taming. I mean, even if you had the highest level stable, you could only breed one or two upper level creatures. Considering all the choices for us (creature wise), CL restrictions for up and comers, and being able to get a hold of someone while you are in game, I see it beeing very difficult for you to find some one with the creature you're looking for while you are in game.

Just had a thought though. Would it be easy for someone to raise a ton of durnis or something, and tame/train til you're master?

Another point made right there. Popping two rancors into your stable cuts your CL limit nearly in half. Sure, every 4 days you'll get a brand-new rancor baby, but if you're an avidtamer (and want to keep your rare/cool pets) is it worth destroying that GPS just to make enough space to get more rancor babies? As a breeder, you would have to SPECIALIZE in breeding and keep your beloved pets to a minimum. Remember, you'll need space in your datapad to accommodate the newborns.

Also, about breeding ruining taming: Vert made a good point about searching for those cool, unusual pets. If I were a breeder I know for sure I would not hunt out another giant veermok so I can sell giant veermok babies. Just the fact that people want to search out their own cool pets will keep breeders from breeding giant crystal snakes or ravenous tortons. If this was implemented, I'd bet that the vast majority of breeders would spend their resources and space to produce utilitarian pets (like grauls or rancors) instead of, say, thunes or malignant squills. That fact alone will keep those pets rare.

Maestro, as for your question, breeding is (according to this design) only possible in the two higher level holding structures (which require higher level CH skills), and they would not produce durnis or whatever nearly fast enough to speed up your exp gain. You could tame 3x the number of durnis in the same time it'd take a corral filled with 8 pairs of durnis to produce that many - and plus you'd get 100 xp a durni from taming them, too.

Maestro

I am a disabled veteran. I currently do not work. I do 90% of my social interaction through the computer. That is probably what you are observing. Started with Diablo, EQ, UT, Mech Warrior, SWG. Years in chat rooms.

I do rescue people from the occasional snake that does not seem to get that he has trespassed on someone elses territory.

I am going to go try to get a few Screenshots today or tomorrow of the Ranchers Farms. Maybe. Worst case scenario is I will post them Monday.

I can't remember if I mentioned it, and I just woke up so I am not going back to read it. But if each pen had it's own terminal and I do believe there are 5 pens. Or maybe there are 4 and the 5th species is running loose there.

Here is my sample terminal:

Set Pen Options: (This is what the CH sees)

Breeding (using standards set in this document for this pen)
Training (Gives pets specified special command)
Gathering (Collects eggs or milk as appropriate)
Sales (Sets price for animals int his pen)
Storage (Sets this pen for storage only)
TrainPet (Sets this pen to train pets with normal CH commands)

OK something to that effect of course there are missing subcategories etc.

Would all the meat from the stable be domesticated?

It's appropriate, but wouldn't be very usefull, and I imagine would be a pain to recode pen animals for domesticated meat as opposed to their "natural" counterparts.

I love the specialty commands, especially the droid module analogy. I mean pets could increase entertainer heals (birds and such), ranger tracking (canine), terrain negotiation for scouts (cats/canine), help artisians find better organic resource spawns, track Jedis for bounty hunters, and I could also see medic benefits by providing better heals (in theory the canine locates valuable resources which increase heals by 15% or something along those lines).

And if you really wanted to stretch I could see mask scent/Bio Engineer sampling bonuses wherein the pet provides a "diversion" for BE, or those of us trying to slip by with mask scent. Or, possibly the animal's scent adds to our mask scent modifier.

I can also forsee combat bonuses...logical ones...For example, I think it would be appropriate if some of the large animals (Pikets, Gronda, etc) gave increase defense vs. stun and intimidate. In theory you are less intimidated or stunned when you have giant pets with you. I also would like to see a block bonus; if there was a succesful pet induced block, the pet wouold take half the damage instead of you (or something similar). I think these would have to be in smaller skins such as cats and canines.

I think we can see that there are endless possibilities for additional, complex, CH content.

"If common knowledge was so common why is it so dang hard to find?"

What we can see and what the development team decides to put in are two different things.

Personally I would like to see a response from a red name, other than TH or Tiggs, one Dev that was actually working on CH rather than flying in JTL or working on JTL or cybernetically linked at the belly button to the Jedi. I would like the Dev who actually cares about CH to come and post here and let us know what they see in the idea as viable and what maybe very hard to code.

....and then no matter how hard we get nerfed, we still keep CH because we are still some of the coolest characters on the game.

Yes, it would be light years of help if a RED would pop their head in and say something along the lines of; good, we can do that, or, that part there, no that would be impossible....

How hard is that. They state that they don't post in or respond to negative posts...OK, agreed, I can deal with that. But you also don't post in positive ones. I mean, this is the third version of the stable post, plus its on all other CH Issue/Needs threads and no constructive criticism, although there is time to scold us in read before you rant crap in addition to bans and deleted posts.

Honestly creature breading would have no appeal to me what so ever. Eggs and milk however do appeal to me very much as that harvesting them currently sucks wet matted wookiee fur.

1. Hopper for eggs and milk just like harvesters in controll pad form.

2. Perhaps these harvesting corrals have domesticated animals in them and can no longer be used in combat or even outside the farm.

This type of setup appeals to me the most. That or a corral just for storage or display. If there ever was a breading option I would hope that I could nueter the animals so they'd keep it in their pants. In FF tactics I always hated deleting all the eggs that would show up in my player screen. They mated asexually though as that you only needed one animal to produce the eggs.

this would be interesting, and what could be done is that depending ont he recourses you feed the "chickens and cows" would determin the quality of eggs and milk you get out of them.

Right now meat, bone and hide harvesting is not part of V.3. It is our hopes that we can get a /cullherd command for Rangers. This in itself does not provide much meat unless we get a harvesting boost to go with it. Changing it to a new type would mean it would need a new use by someone. If we went the saddle bags route as mentioned in previous posts as something craftable by CH, domesticated hides would make sense.

I do like the idea that CH bred animals might be tagged in some way to allow for the new commands/special uses to be trained and this type creature could not have anything but a basic command like stay or follow, plus any additinal command. Ranger with range bonus but the pet could not attack. BH with special pet giving a bonus to tracking. A dancer would have no need for a pet that attacks so a syncronized dancer pet would not be able to do so.

A Milk Maid bot would be terrific to act as a hopper for pets in pens marked collect eggs milk. Of course this adds more to the tamer aspect because the CH will constantly have to tame what is the best source for the milk and eggs active at the time.

I would be troubled by stat bonuses to anything dropped by harvested or collected means because the CH would never keep up with the shifts to be able to provide better unless the rates were increased to such an amount to make it viable. Simply passive collection of such resources should be enough to make this plan work.

Good comments all.
